i'm thinking of get this motor http://www.bmsbattery.com/ebike-kits/348-bafang-350watts500watts-bpm-motor-e-bike-kit.html
with the half-twist throttle and also purchasing this thumb throttle http://www.bmsbattery.com/accessory/231-thumb-level-throttle.html

Question is can i have both installed on the bike at the same time or i can use whichever one i feel like? or can you only have one type of throttle at a time?

That's exactly what I do using one without the spring as a cruise control. I separate them with a switch so that I don't get cruise when I don't want it, but I'm fairly sure that if you just splice the throttles together, it works either or whatever is the highest. I used to use a 10K pot, but now I use a thumb throttle because it's easier to adjust. Here's the schematic which is the same whether you use a throttle or potentiometer:

what does that linear pot do?

Thumb throttles are made from pvc. So it's possible to glue a short piece of 1" pvc pipe to a thumb throttle, and have a throttle that is both thumb and half twist.

It's nice for really long rides, like more than 40 miles, to have both. Less hand fatigue.

I like that cruise idea.

How I'd do it.

Yeah, ebrakes, deadman switch, something. I just adjusted to half twist and use only that now. Cruise is jamming the rubber grip up tight. That lets me hold the bars with an open palm for long rides. But I can grip and rotate it to off easily. Not that hard to shut off.

I like KISS.

If you want to pursue this strategy you might add a third diode in the common ground return to raise the throttle Gnd level and counter the Throttle Out diode voltage offset - otherwise your Throttle Out voltages will be low by a junction drop (~0.7v) and will introduce a ZERO throttle dead zone and possibly not be able to achieve WOT.
