Am I the only one that wants to electrify this?

WHY!? Why am I just now finding out about this event!?

Aqua Chopper!

$40. http://www.autocanoe.com/

Looks like this new one has power in the water, as the autocanoe hasn't.

You could have seen this guy at last years' San Mateo Maker Faire. We never have anything any good when they come to the OC.

or, you could just use your existing e-bike on one of these:

That is killer. Though it must make a lot of water drag, I like the way the rear wheel is a solid disk, so it also works as a rudder in the water.

Definitely room for a mid drive and a huge battery. Or a shit load of groceries.

I was a bit slow in spotting this thread but I can confirm that the Italian made Shuttle Bike does work very well on water. Here's me on a maiden voyage.

I've been searching for a true amphibious bike for many years now, but it's a tricky compromise.

The wheeled canoes look great, and I like the idea of pedalling straight in or out via a slipway, but the bulk of the canoe hull looks tricky for public road use.

The Shuttlebike uses a standard bike, with all of the floaty bits folded away in pannier bags, so it could be safely ridden anywhere.

It takes about 15 minutes to assemble the frame and inflate the tubes, but then it makes a very stable boat.

I'm quite a heavy (fat) bloke, so I had an initial problem with fore and aft stability where the tubes tended to fold at the frame attachment points. I cured that by adding two thin marine ply "splints" to spread the load along the tubes. I's now very stable, even with my 195 kg.

The drive is via a flexible shaft from the rear wheel, so the pedals drive a propeller under the front wheel, a very clever and well engineered solution. So you could use a mid electric drive and get the advantage of the gears.

I haven't electrified it yet, but it's a distinct possibility !

maybe a good opportunity for one of those inflatable safety helmets !

Huh?

The model does not need a helmet on WATER. (Well, I don't know the laws for where you stay.)

The model is attired in a natty vest looking much like flotation jackets I have seen and worn.

However, I do fear that the Captain may come to grief due to the absence of a rudder, a braking means, or a propulsion means.

An inflatable helmet will keep his head above water.

There is apparently a propeller under the front wheel, that I assume takes care of propulsion, steering and possibly braking.

Only to your superhuman Superman X-ray vision, Punk. Or maybe in your hallucination vision.

It is not seen in the picture.

You mean, of course, the INVISIBLE inflator that CANNOT be seen in the picture.

Nah, I mean the one inflated when they blew it up before they got in the water and they run around looking like that the whole time.

This apparent propeller: You're saying it's an apparition? The Shuttlebike sure is proving to be novel.

Hey, Jack, I'm saying that I can't see it in the picture.

I can't see it in the picture, trouble-maker.

Are you trying to be the representative, the poster-boy, of the ever-argumentive punk, the always disagreeable .....

Oh, I get it. Your icon says it all. Yes, that's it. You'll fight for your right to be dumb but always disagreeable , and somehow accepted clan member.

OK. I get it .

Who cares.

Then fill me in, I can't begin to guess what you're carrying on about. (In your cups? Who's Jack?) Though obviously you're caring about something you shouldn't.

There are some wild fight threads around here that I stay away from. I wonder how many you're in.

All depends on which thread you're in around here. Given a few tense moments out there at the moment, you never know what the secret identities will start spreading around.

I think the Attorney General said it best. Obama got on about our California AG, wonder what happened when he got a load of this one.
