Hi Folks,

Looking for some advice on a Chargery c10325 charger that went pop when I plugged it in to the mains last week. Trips household fuses anytime I try and plug it in now.

I have opened it up just to see if there is anything obvious and this jumped out at me...the small broken piece was rattling around and came out when I opened it up...appears to have come off the circled section of the component on the board....

Any idea what it is and a fix I assume is removing the busted part and soldering in a new one?

Thanks...

Oh i thought I had shared them. I've sent the charger back to chargery now so we shall see what happens and over what time scale!

Just an update:

My charger arrived with Chargery and I have been told they will repair it and send it back to me ASAP. So far so good.

Just a little update and to help people in the future perhaps.

The saga continues:

To date I have heard nothing, nada, zilch, from Andy Kirby at Cloudsto despite multiple emails.

I only have Jason at Chargery's email as he was copied in to my initial sales email to provide tracking info for me when I asked ....so when Andy Kirby at Cloudsto never replied to me I sent Jason an email.

Jason at Chargery appeared helpful at first but now he has my charger is being less so. Read on.

My charger arrived with him in China one week ago on the 08th Dec. Initially on the 09th he said it would be repaired and sent back to me ASAP.

Then I get an email on the 11th telling me it is not repairable and sent me an image of a charger on the bench with multiple broken plastic parts in front of it and tells me the transformer is broken through my misuse/improper use of the charger. I thought this weird as you'll see from the image there is a lot of extra broken bits.

Now at this stage I am curious as I have images of the inside of my unit when I opened it up initially to see if it was an easy fix that could be carried out in the UK to save it being sent away. Jason did not know I had images of the board. My images clearly show the same parts in tact and I'd be very surprised if the transformer he tells me is broken could produce as many large parts when broken as his initial image tries to tell me.

my board condition the day it was sent back:

In the below image it is clear to see the thermistor on the left has broken apart too but Jason has made no mention of this being a fault.

Now this is where I remind him that he specified the value on the return had to be $30 for customs reasons his end and I confirmed with him that if it got damaged or lost in transit that I would not be insured for the full amount and I wasn't happy about that...he assured me if anything happened he would send me another charger to replace it.

I then tell him the transformer was in tact when I sent it and show him the above photo of the whole board.

Now he tells me warranty is void as I opened it and broke the transformer in the process. Clearly I didn't as it is already apart in the image and still in tact.

I inspect the images further as something doesn't seem right here. More on this in a while.

When I press him on this as an obvious attempt at getting out of the warranty claim he tells me the packaging was damaged when it arrived with him and that it must have been damaged in transit now rather than my breaking it when I took the case off.

I remind him of the fact I asked him about this before sending it and the whole "I'll send you another" email...he refuses and now tells me the packaging was inadequate and my fault. I bubble wrapped the charger in a strong cardboard box and parcel taped the hell out of it and sent him an image confirming it was OK before sending it.

He then goes on to tell me that if I received a damaged package that I would refuse to accept it so I asked him why he didn't do the same and is only now bringing this up after I have showed him the intact board photo? He is now ignoring me.

Perhaps it is my eyes playing tricks on me but my brain drifted to I wonder if the first image that he sent me with broken parts of my so called called broken transformer was even my charger so I started seeing if there were any differences in the boards and I think maybe I see a couple but wonder If I am not just being bitter at the situation and seeing things...what do you guys think?

This image is from Chargery as the show of my broken charger and I have circled where I believe there to be differences from my board...help me out here...one circled area shows a number 1 by the component connection to the board and the other circled area shows the insulation on one of the wires.

The next images are of the same areas but on my board...

different heat shrink coverage i think

and the same component attachment site at my board has no number 1 next to it

A fresh site of eyes on this would be appreciated folks...

I also have this image of the inside of the casing that faces the rear of the board...clear scorch marks...I have yet to send this to Chargery.

Right now I am without a charger and over £300 out of pocket

Any ideas on why images are not showing would great! They are hosted on my own website with no restrictions on them...

Why can't people be more honest? Of course I wasn't there but his shifting answers to you demonstrate classic textbook shyster behavior. Every time you make a challenging statement he responds with a different answer.

Can you ask him what exactly constitutes "misuse/improper use of the charger" in this case?

Being overseas, this looks like it is going to be extremely difficult to resolve to your satisfaction. Probably at this point, the best you can do is to post your experience in the Vendor Relations Corner section, in hopes of warning other potential customers away.

PS: I can see your recent photos, no problem.

Thank you:) I am now taking to social media of the UK supplier in hope of some contact or foolishly a resolution.

More updates to keep this updated:

I have had zero contact from Chargery again as above.

I have mailed Cloudsto (the UK supplier) multiple times with zero replies.

I have taken to facebook and Twitter to try and call out Cloudsto and Andy Kirby. Cloudsto repsonded on FB and said the emails must have gone to spam and blamed it on new staff.

I pointed out that the emails were a continuation of previous sales email and that there were now about 30 mails in the conversation and couldn't have gone to spam... they now ignore me.

I am totally stuck now it would seem and am left with just messaging them periodically. STAY WELL CLEAR OF CHARGERY AND CLOUDSTO/ANDY KIRBY is the only advice I can give.
