I strayed from SLA and bought a NiCd pack from ebikes.ca. It has always heated up when charging more than once per day and now one or more cells are going bad and I'm getting about 3AH out of the 8AH pack. It was supposed to last longer than SLA but my SLAs lasted 1700 miles, these NiCds only 1400 miles.
NiMH and NiCd have too many cells and are too prone to unbalancing. Lithiums have other problems like complicated charging and BMS setups, not to mention the cost. I am ready to buy SLA again.
The question is where is the cheapest place? I remember a year ago I could get 3X 12V, 12AH for $45 shipped to my door on ebay but now I see it will be almost double that. Did lead suddenly get expensive or is it the fuel used to transposrt the lead?
If anybody has a lead on a good supplier I will appreciate it.
