Seen on ES in message re their latest motor on their Euro "Speed Pedelec":

Looks like Winora make four different flavours of their "Radar" ebikes. Don't think this is the "Speed" version, but similar?

Hehe... I'm assuming most viewers are north american and only interested in the Euro "speed" pedelecs...

TranzX motor. I guess that means CANbus will lock you in to having to take the bike back to the dealer every time something goes wrong and having to pay an exorbitant price for a replacement battery. Not for me.

Hehe... Then other folks say stuff like "I like the CANBus hardware". Seen here:

ES is mainly about building DIY electric motorcycles that have some pedals attached to it for camouflage. Most users are not interested in quality bicycles with a bit of motor assist.

So, "store bought" = quality? Suspect many here might be disappointed to hear their creations are "sub-quality" or something... I was actually referring to "higher powered" motors rather than the Euro "EPAC power" 250 watt bikes. :) One nice thing about DIY at least is ya learn all about the "nuts and bolts" of electric traction.

BUT, most folks today don't build their own houses any more. Or build their own cars.

And that "camouflage"? Can actually be used for exercise! And for warmth! But in "EV Terms", can be used to extend ranges per charge, and shave peak power outputs at startups and up hills... which can extend the lives of the battery before needing recycling and replacement. It's about driving down the costs per mile to operate.

Anyway. I suspect "store bought" ebikes will rule eventually. One nice thing about production/manufacturing in volume numbers? Lowers the cost per unit to produce.

Having said all this, it's nice to see production of "car-sized" EVs like the Tesla, but I only lust after their battery packs. How to disassemble to "bike-sized" packs.

:)
