Hello,

I am making my list for parts and was wondering what is the latest recommendation for most comfortable, long range frame is? I will be using this to go 25-30 miles each way to work each day, and we have pretty bad roads. I have been looking at the EEB from Em3ev, because it seems surprisingly affordable and mod-able.

I am looking to pair it with either the QS 205 or 273. Only looking for 45 MPH max to keep up safely with non-highway traffic in this area. (40 MPH speed limit) I won't be doing any jumping or off road riding, 100% pavement. Comfort, stability, and range are the biggest factors for me so far.

Any recommendations or pointers are welcome.

Thank you :es:

I have a Surly Krampus steel frame, with 2.5" tires, adequate tires pressure (ie. low pressure), good saddle (Brooks B17 or C17) and good handlebar it's confortable. I'm using it up to 30 mph. I've done up to 200kms in one day with it.
One downside of the Krampus : it's limited to 38T front gear (with Boost BB, 36T with normal BB). OK for me to pedal up to 30 mph with 29x2.5 tires, but not more. 40-45 mph is not feasible for sure if you want to pedal.
The Surly Ogre frame allows bigger front gear.
The Krampus has a MTB frame, it's solid. Which is a good point if you intend to drive at 45 mph. The Ogre's frame seems to be a bit less sturdy (classified by Surly as a "touring" frame, not "trail").

I'm starting a new job in 1 week, I intend to use my eKrampus 50 kms per day 3-4 days per week, I will let you know how it's working :) (the G310 motor will be replaced soon by a GMAC)

Choose strong rims too (I have 2 Ryde Andra 40), and powerfull brakes.

If you're looking for real comfort, have a look on the CaneCreek Thudbuster. I think a steel frame with suspension fork and Thudbuster will be realy comfortable.

EDIT : I had a look on your link, indeed it's a totally different frame, if don't know the EEB frame, for sure it will allow bigger battery (mine is 1 kWh), and with good fork and suspension it will probably be more adapted to the high speed you want than a Surly steel frame.

The most important question by far: Can you charge at work? Can you convince them to install the amenities? If you battery was removable, would it be feasible to charge it?

That will slash the price/weight/size of your battery to close to half and open up a lot of possibilities.

Are you willing to do pas?

I'd strongly consider a recumbent trike, but if you're stuck on an upright then a well built eeb style bike should have a large enough battery box to handle the huge pack you're going to need to meet your goals. You'll probably spend as much on the battery as you will on the rest of the bike though, give or take, so heads up there. Spec your wheels, brakes, and tires wisely as well for those kinds of sustained speeds. Also be sure to buy quality cells and not some Aliexpress mystery pack.
