Controller heat and wires/connectors melting

Yep, the blue wire has been pretty hot. Sometimes heat concentrates in the axle, and melts wires till they short each other.

When I melt one down this way, I often open the motor and pull wire in till I have good wire inside the axle again. Then do the fat wire on the rest, starting 6 " out. 6" out cuz I might have to do it again.

But there may be other stuff in that motor you cooked, particularly the halls. A 30 buck motor controller throttle tester will save you a ton of time on the testing.

Unsolder the three phase wires. Set your meter to AC and test each pair of phase wires (3 pairs). spin the wheel backwards and you should see some voltage come on the meter because each phase should generate power. Then check the resistance between each phase wire and the motor case. It should be open circuit. finally, if you can feel significant resistance (not the normal cogging) when you turn the wheel backwards, there's a short between two phase wires. It it passes those three tests, your motor is probably OK.
