I have a kids atv that comes electric. It’s 36v with a Kelly controller.

The previous owner managed to melt the phase wires together. I was wondering if some one can tell me what to test the controller for when the phase wires short circuit.

I was thinking the mosfets?

I would like to try and repair the controller.

Thanks in advanc

If you use a meter in ohms or diode check mode, measure from each phase wire to both red and black battery wires. Swap the meter probes on each measurement. All 6 combinations should measure like a diode. A shorted FET will look like zero ohms in both directions. If all of them look like a diode, the FETs are probably all good.

Just speaking from experience. When my hub motor spun the axle and it shorted the phase wires my kelly exploded one mosfet and melted another. I only had it set to about 36% power at the time, only reason I mention that is because maybe I'm wrong but I would think that means less power is going in and out of the mosfets. I don't think they like it very much when you tickle the wrong parts at the wrong times.
