CRYSTALYTE 5404 HUB MOTOR - INCREDIBLE TORQUE!

that is so cool!

Did you put 2 fans together- the fan looks quite long... May i ask which turbo fans are you exactly using?

Which material is your mountain-bike tubing?
Steel, here's no problem! :D
Aluminum, here's a little problem, you must test it! :)
Carbon, here's a big problem, forget it![/quote]

The frame is aluminum, i hope is ok :)

Hi guys...

Here the finished motor with forced air cooling!

The 2 fans are a test for a forced and active air cooling. But it's very noisy.
I decided me now for a radial turbo blower NIDEC GAMMA 30.+
http://www.nidec.com/fanpdfs/gamma30g2.pdf

With the radial blowers I've got more pressure, that rocks!

so you are going for the 19W fan?

Perfect way of solving the overheating issue! however only for "sunny" riders - and im an all-weather one :?

But are you not afraid that the fan will put all sorts of dust, sand, little rocks inside the motor causing some troubles? with such powerful fan it may happen, that these stuff will go out as quick as it came in...

You should become a pro in pimping Crystalyte motors! :)

I'd always taken a fan with 3-4W, I don't need a hurricane in the motor.
It's just to get the staying heat away.
Without fan, only with the holes you got a slightly air cooling!

Dust is no problem, but little rocks of course, that can block your motor.
I'm testing something out...
The motor gets at both sides(inlet&outlet) very fine inox grid(600-800µm).
The grid is impregnated, so the grid is "ever-clean", now the water and dirt cannot come inside.
For the turbo fan I have selected a coarse grid(1mm).

The system of impregnation/waterproof should be something like this:

I promised to show the 6 hall sensor stator:
Then I've got 3 sensors for a normal run and additional 3 reserve sensors for the case a sensor gone broken!

Arhhh... if only shipping this beast to canada would have been raisonnable... :(

Thanks for the pics

Doc

Lowracer,

I've always enjoyed your youtube videos. I play them full screen in the garage while I make CNC machines :)

Love the music YOU MAKE with the vids as well. KEEP THEM COMING!

by the way, are you ready to take back what you said 1 year ago in the youtube comments about hub motors?

Thanks! I ride this bike before with 4 dc-motors and I know that the hubmotor never can reach the encredible power! But the roadholding of the frame never change, the seat height is 13cm from the ground and every heavy part(batt, cooler, controllers) are under the wheel center position!
ChrisLuxembourg 1 year ago

I remember that vid :) those 4 motors and that sprocket you made by hand out of a circular saw blade was craftsmanship at it's best!

PS. Please include more pix of the hot chicks ;)

Shipping???
"Par Avion", so you can calculate a price of about 200€ for DHL!

Thanks for your feedback!
The videos and the own music are very much work for me...
...And then, there are idiots which only click "dislike"
It's not nice to be insanely jealous, so I cannot help this guys, they need a psychiatrist!

Now to the motors
It's difficult to compare...
A 7-speed-gear-box powered with 4-dc-motors works better than a hubmotor!
But after the 3rd (broken) gear-box I decided me for a hubmotor.
My first hubmotor was a GoldenMotor, sorry, but it burn down with the 1st test ride!
After 3 toasted GoldenMotors I decided me for a Crystalyte 5404 Motor.
But here the same, the 1st 5404 burn down!

After very long tuning works, the ultimate Crystalyte 5404 can power a 200Kg trike @ 38Volt!
You cannot compare it with the normal 5404.

Of course "THE DISC SAW MASSACRE" always exists:

But for a much lighter ultra lowracer:

how did you manage to burn the 5404 with 37v?!? how many amps did you push?

I think this is easy,

low speed.

Low speed like 5-10km/h heat my motor more than top speed run at 2000w

The lowracer apex is beautiful. I am thinking my next build will have to be a recumbent.

Thanks! The lowracer is an easy creation, without or with electric motor you can compare with a
ride on a cannonball. So you can hit 60Km/h in short...
BUT, you must learn to ride this ultra lowracer!
A seat high of 13cm from the ground is requiring an excellent balance!
You'll need to ride 100s of kilometers to master the lowracer.

You know, 37Volt is by the law the maximum here.
The 4110 12-FET 35A controller is converted into a 50A controller, at 55A I've a cut off.
The motor "sucks" 65A/phase, feed line cables are 10mm²!

Not nearly, remember that I don't have a chain on my motor.
Many hub motors and many controllers lost her life...
The problem was not the low speed, it was the start from a holdup in a mountain!

OK, so more than a year later, what is the news on the keyway instead of the splines, has it started rocking and wearing out or is it still as solid as when first put together?

I need to do a new axle for mine..I just snapped it and need to decide if i should pay out big money to re cut splines for a thicker axle, or just weld the axle in to the stator

If ay still available...try the for sale section here...

there was one on e-bay the other day, no links though.

do an e-bay search and save it so it keeps updating you via e-mail when ever a new item appears

5304 on there now

To have burned that motor up WITH extra forced air cooling, and such a tiny input power, it seems likely to me that it was running on a false positive hall combo.
