Crystalyte Motor installed...First impression

Nice to hear happy reports about hub motors :)

Just wanted to mention your clothesline tightener... it's a "turnbuckle"... just FYI :)

Thought I could add, for the turnbuckle-challenged (like, where do I get one other than sacrificing Mums clothesline), that if you have the line (rope) already, you don't need the turnbuckle.

You can instead construct a Spanish Windlass.

You can google to see lots of flavours of these, but the basic approach is just to slip any old handle thingee (eg a stout screw driver) into a loop in the line and start twisting. You only need to be sure you are using line that doesn't stretch (just double/triple/whatever the turns to double/triple/whatever strength and cut stretch, if necessary).

In the context of spreading forks, one fork would be tied off to something solid, like, oh, i dunno, a *tree*?, and the windlass would work between the other fork and something on the opposite side of the vehicle from the tree... trailer hitch on a two ton vehicle maybe? (`Course, you could just drive fwd. a bit with the two-tonner, but where's the finese in that? <grin>)

You can develop a huge amount of force with a windlass this way, so just be careful too, not to let the handle/whatever "get loose".

tks
