Wear the fox hat.
Well these freewheels are cheap too, but they are "special"... so they get their own topic.

These ebikes have a freewheel on the left for the motor, and a freewheel on the right for the pedals. The cx450 has a painted hub (black) which makes it tough to get the freewheels off. Heat was used on the Left FW below, to remove it from the hub. It is LeftHand threaded.

The right is a fairly conventional FW, so you might want to upgrade. The left is uncommon, so there isn't much to upgrade to. You might even try to get a spare, because who wants to wait for parts if one breaks?

The covers/races face the hub, and can be unscrewed to repack the bearings. The Right FW has a RH threaded cover/race.

I didn't take pix of the insides, because they are typical cheap stuff (but not the worst).

Thanks again Tyler. When U say "apply heat" I think of propane torch, not anything hotter. Do U then use a chain wrench to rotate against the freewheel?

Any chance of a pic of the transmission as it is on the bike, Tyler?

Speaking of Currie left thread freewheels, I spoke to the guy who imports the Izip and Ezip and he says that hubs for those bikes (they are different) are on the slow boat from China! Really! So figure July before replacements are gonna be here. There are more expenxive left hand freewheels, but I would rather try to use the one I have for my "final version" 3 speed hub with real threads instead of epoxy! Help! I need the total plan to remove one of these things, non-destructively!

I usually use MAPP, for speed. Propane should be hot enough for this stuff, but takes longer.

I just picked up one of these bikes, and my first thought is to replace the 20 tooth lefty freewheel with a 13-14 lefty freewheel to trade torque for top speed. It seems like that it is just a BMX lefty hub to me, am I wrong?

I would buy the lefty freewheel from here

If it is a lefty hub, you can choose from several tooth-count, 13 and up.
