Hello All,

I have purchased a Maranello SCE, which has a Curtis 1268 48v DC controller.
I'm trying to talk to the controller via its serial port, which is a 4 pin Molex connector. I am having no luck with RS-232 direct, or a TTL USB adaptor.
Has anyone any idea on what sort of cable I need?
Sorry if you have read this before from me on the electric vehicle discussion list, but I am really stuck, and would appreciate any ideas.

Thank you

Paul

Don't the programmable Curtis controllers require the special and relatively expensive handheld programming device? If there's a hack for using a PC, then that should also include the instructions for the wiring too. If you solve it, please let us know, since I have a couple of Curtis's I'd like to change settings.

There is an expensive programmer, but there is also a slightly less expensive software package for windows, that comes with a cable. Its that cable that I need to figure out.

1268 is a serial port, 9600baud. To communicate with the controller you will need to know the handshake and control codes. The PC programmer (1314)retails for £130 and is compatible with all Curtis motor controllers. The hand held unit (1311) retails for £220. Manuals and info are available from http://www.curtisinstruments.com. I attached the manual witht the serial connections. The 1268 is a generic SepEx golf controller with speed feedback.
The lead, by the way, is just an opto isolator, so a defective controller doesn't put battery voltage into your PC serial port.

RS232 to TTL is a good start, you need to invert it! use a Sn74LS04 !

It talks "enhanced serial" with 1314 PC Programming Station

just acquired a curtis 1235 that I would like to reprogram, the donor vehicle was a baggage cart with a rev-stop-forward thottle, if i cant reprogram i guess a custom throttle build will be the answer, a bike with reverse i dont need....

you need the curtis software if you're going to talk to it. Just hooking the dongle to the port won't get you anywhere unless you know the handshaking codes.

read that thread, the entire thing. You also need to get the 1314 software.
