Been playing with the CA GPS data ananlogger .

Got the text files in NMEA format, and a garmin mac apps..but none that recognise the text files. Goole earth App..no

GPS Bable...no
MacGPX..no

once you have the nmea text files what with a Mac can you d with them?

Well yes, that was what I thought..i tried it with various front end GUIs..GPSBabel+.app, HoudahGPS, and even had a go with the command line in terminal ..but it does not seem to do it.

The apps wont open the text file..so where to go now.?

Sorry, didn't know you already knew. The following will probably be equally unhelpful then.

I just now took a sample NMEA file, ran it through the online GPS Visualizer using the default Google Earth selection, and it looks ok. What would your data look like there? Is the format ok, can you show a few lines?

I downloaded and ran the Windows GPSBabel with the sample file and there were all kinds of input and output format options. Got a longitude error, probably my error using the program.

Sorry, yes, should have attached one of my output files.

If I try and load it with HoudahGPS, it cant load the file..it wont accept it...the text files are greyed out.

The HoudahGPS help, says that the Acquire button is not active when 'Device" is selected..so implying that it is active when File is selected..but no.

Any idea?

I'll try again with the GPS Visuliser that you mention

ummm well GPS Visulaiser did accept the text file so I can do it on line..but shame I cant do it on my own machine//...will keep trying

Got HoudahGPS to work...

I posted to their forum..to be told the help file was wrong..

Alos needed to change the fiel extension from txt to nmea for it to work..maybe the same issue with GPSBable

I also saw it suggested somewhere else to change the file extension to nmea. Also read that HoudahGPS and GPS Visualizer are frontends to GPSBabel. I guess it's pretty much a matter of getting the run options right.

Yes, they are only graphical front ends, hence why I also tried the CMD line.
Sorted now,

Now need to find a way to graphically view combined profile/ gradient data alongside the CA Output. Unfortunately the CA does not have time logs on the data stream, but I guess there will be the same number of data points on each file, so they will match up

But that is for another time.
