Forget about it dude, you wouldn't be asking you would have googled and already seen the millions of instructable projects exactly along these lines and realized that it's a ton of effort to make a 10kw motor and you're much better off buying one ready made.
 
If you have to ask if it is possible to build your own 10kW BLDC motor it might not be such a wise idea... :wink:

Why do you want to build your own motor? For what application?
 
I would say 10 kW is possible... my tripple stator axial flux is around 3 kW, it is limited by rpm (1500). If you manage to get the rpm up by a factor 3 to 4 you are there. My rpm is limited to 1500 because of balancing and possibly the (bicycle)axle choice.

Use a high speed axle, have the rotor professionally laser or water cut and 10kW should be possible.

Of course it is possible. It's just a serious big project. A member on here has been building his motor and still is trying to get it to work properly. Read through his build thread to see what is needed to actually get a working motor let alone a 10kW version: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=97860
If you don't get discouraged by all the trouble and complexity but still feel confident you can do it then please start a build thread of your own. There will be lots of very knowledgeable people (not me unfortunately) on this forum that might help with advise and guidance.

About 10 years ago a guy posted info and video for a para-motor he built that was nearly that power, and it was built in the same fashion as some DIY wind turbine generators. Unless you're going to be a real scientist about it and really do your homework like Miles or Lebowski, I wouldn't even consider it, because efficiency is so important. The only exception would be to convert a car alternator into a motor with the use of a permanent magnet rotor...also used for DIY wind turbines.
 
Do not even bother trying, just save up and buy a 10kw motor, the QS motors like the 273H for hubs, or the CycloneTW website for a mid-drive, or even have a look at the MXUS 5000W and add some vents, ferrofluid/atf and alum heat sinks between the flanges.

Here is a QS 14kw motor in 80H size. "Motorcycle" motor it states.

Do as you wish, but I would recommend starting with an ebike-size of motor. Doing it with your own hands is worth a thousand words of advice.

Also...the application has a huge effect on which styles of motor would be appropriate. What do you want to drive with 10kW?

Great advice; full scale mistakes are expensive so making a smaller trial prototype before going for 10kW is smart.

I'd do a version of the lebowski motor: it's simple and clever.

A normal bldc outrunner won't be so hard either, it could be done with some lathe work. Easy if you have a helpful machine shop nearby and access to some tools of your own.

It won't be cheaper than a comparable chinese motor, all the bits and pieces cost a lot in the end if you're not exceptionally gifted :D
 
I can think of many ways to improve the Chinese motors that we are using. So yes, it is possible to make your own and do better. Time and money must not be spared though, for building one satisfying prototype of a new motor can be a long term project.
