Do you ride your ebike at night?

How about some wide whitewall tires, a ghetto blaster on the front and rear, fuzzy dice hanging from mirrors, a bottle of perfume mounted on the dash, gold chained license plate frames....

Okay fired up the blue LED strip. 12V @ 0.33 Amps, so about 4 Watts.

They are pretty bright. Not sure if I will use them. Feels more bike bling, than safety feature.

But they will definitely help people see me...

That will definitely increase your visibility, bling or not. Who cares what people think?

For safety... reflective clothing is really helpful to being seen at night. Some of the best stuff I've seen use Illuminite

Of course if you really want to be obnixiously seen and you could one or two of these Monkey Electric lights on each wheel. They're so bright you attract attention even in the daytime.

MonkeyLectric is definitely the brightest ones out there.
But check out SpokePOV http://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6 especially the Pacman chasing the blue ghost.

:D Yeah. Now we are talking. Love it.

I see where i was going wrong now. If I am going to draw attention to myself, I might as well embrace the philosophy. And style it up.

Time to ......

With all of my blinkies and reflective striping, my friend pulled up behind me in his truck on a dark country road, and thus screamed out at the top of his lungs.....

OMG!!! LOOK, IT'S A UFO!!!! THE ALIENS ARE HERE!!!

Personally, I don't care how obnoxious the monkey electric things are. If they help visibility from motorists at night they have my vote.. BTW - you can program these things - perhaps it should just say "don't hit me!".

I emember reading somewhere when they did a safety study side on collisions were the most common, so intersections are the most dangerous places and reflectors don't cut it IMO..

Here are some useful articles on commuting at night - the streetsmarts one is where I read about the accident stat I think.. many good tips here.
