I'm looking for an RC car. Preferably an electric one. Does anyone know a good place to order them on line(for Canada). I don't really know what the standard good brands are or anything like that etc. I'll also need to order a transmitter.

I'm pretty into them. Right not I'm working on my crt .5. Lokk at traxxas trucks, HPI, Losi, Associated, etc. Maybe you want to check out an rc forum? The traxxas 4wd slash looks like a cool kit. If you want something fast get something brushless and get a lipo. A lipo is a great first upgrade. The turnigys at hobbycity are great, especially pricewise. Maxamps are bad. Hyperion lipos are the best you can get.

For a stock smaller electric truck with a lipo expect to pay around $300-$400 plus the cost of a charger. You can look for used vehicles at rc-universe, rc-groups, rc-tech.net, and a few other sites. If you end up with a nitro I would suggest buying your first one new so you can get good to tuning it.

If you want a monster truck or other big truck, there is a HPI Savage flux, which is amazingly fast and great for jumping. You can get the traxxas e-revo or E-maxx. Both have brushed and brushless versions. Brushless is wayy faster.

If you want to spend a little lest and can settle for a 2wd, look at a traxxas rustler or traxxas slash or traxxas stampede They are very popular and very refined trucks. Most of these come with a radio and even battery/charger. I would first upgrade the battery to a lipo, then look at upgrading the transmitter if range isn't what you expected or the motor/esc after the battery for more speed.

I'm not a big touring car guy, but look at associated and losi's cars.

If you want a smaller 18th scale, look at the traxxas mini e-revo. It is the best out of the box. No upgrades needed. Great for beginners, but it can't go on the terrain the other trucks can.

And finally, if you want to run around the living room, check out the 1/36 scale line from losi. Micro T, micro Destert truck etc. The lipo is a good first upgrade for this as well.

Here's some pictures of my crt .5. It has a brushless mount (used to be a nitro), traxxas jato shocks front and rear, and 2.2 truck Proline gladiator tires on rpm wheels. I had a mamba max speed controller/flightpower 3s lipo/Medusa 3300kv brushless setup but I sold all but the esc. I am looking for a motor now and I'll get a turnigy off hobbycity with my next order.

The shocks/tires looks BA 8)

Those are awesome!

Makes my old Associated RC10 look like a joke.

I wonder if I could fit a pair of boots to 2 of the AWD traxxas and sync the throttles... turbo skates! (would need accellerometer and lots of other stuff to be safe, similar to segway but you are the base platform).

Im about to get back into this after 12 years out (now that I have tons of spare 3-12S lipo packs and chargers coming out my ears) to enjoy with my 3 year old... (yea it's more for me but he will love it)...

What's out there in electric now adays comparable or better than the RC10 in quality and speed. I am thinking uber strong will be the best bet since the little man will likely crash alot (he does on his bike).

TIA!

Look at the new rc10. It will have a lot of new upgrades. Then look at www.castlecreations.com. They have the mamba monster escs and Neu-based motors for 8th scale stuff (like buggys, truggys, and monster trucks), they have a mamba max pro controller that is sensored, and they have a few 10th scale and 18th scale based controllers and motors. A brushless system from them will make your rc10 look extremely slow. If you take a new rc10 and put a castle 5700 system in it and run it on 3s lipo, you're almost guarenteed 50mph. It's insaine.

Check out videos of the savage flux. This is insaine. It is the castle mamba monster system. That runs on either 4, 5 or 6s lipo. On 6s lipo, , , ,, it's fast.

I have a hydroplane inrunner motor on an RC18 with a 120amp controller running on 6s.

The goal was to make the worlds fastest 1/18th scale RC car, and its geared to do 80mph. I went with fancy digital servos and fancy recievers, and every part of the drivetrain in aluminum or titanium, and it sucked. :( Awful handleing, enough power to flip the car over even at really high speeds, and I was never able to control it or apply the power it had.

My grocery getter has a better power to weight ratio than a Bugatti Veyron. I'm not the sort to fuss about something being overpowered, but with moder LiPo and brushless motors, it does seem to be possible to get excessive power in an RC chassis (at least at the 1/18th scale).

Just about any scale RC can be overpowered now. The Castle/neu motors put out so much torque that it is ridiculous. I have the Savage Flux and it runs a 1515-1y motor stock (pretty sure) and it will do standing backflips on 6s lipo. Heavy beast of a truck, and I can't put all the power down because of the flipping and wheelie-ing. Even at 40mph it will pull the front tires off the ground if you goose it.

For something different check out RCcrawler.com, they have a lot of scale and solid axle vehicles there.

those are some sick rc cars. i have a few nitro cars sitting around but i never got into the electrics. the only thing i came remotely close to rc cars is xmods. i have a few decent ones that ive reworked including this one.

it has a custom handmade chassis, evo pcb with 2x2 stacked mosfet able to handle a 14 amp motor. custom rewound motor with advanced timing and hi-speed gearing. this setup was clocked at 29 mph on my dyno/speed checker(doesnt sound that impressive but at 1/24th scale, it moves). it recently been dismantled since i smoked the board.

a personal favorite i put together for my bro. a fwd. on the speed checker it hit 26 mph(the f-150 in the background has a full sound system in it...lol). these are nothing compared to real hobby rc's but they are still fun to play with...lol
id totally love to get into larger scale electric rc cars.
