Hard to shoot pix and do crew duties at the same time. Here's one shortly after takeoff. This balloon is very tricky, since parts of the helmet can get low enough to get into the flame from the burner. We have now learned to put extra people near the flame when putting it up to hold the fabric back. View attachment darth 1.jpg

In this one, the pilot is putting the fire into the balloon to get it stood up. The guy in red who is not so close to the flame is me.View attachment Putting the hot air into darth vader.jpg

The special shapes are quite a performance. The bees take off holding hands, then kiss and seperate to fly offView attachment kissing bees.jpg

Heres a shot of just a few of the specail shape balloons. The bees, Wells fargo stagecoach, Felix the cat, and many many more.View attachment Special shapes rodeo.jpg

The official beer of the fiesta, Warsteiner. Helped the pilot pack that one up the other day. Latest news, two balloons in powerlines, and one draped over a streetlight. Nobody hurt bad, but a few bruised up. The wind really picked up toward the end of the morning, and blew all the balloons to the part of the city that has nowhere to land. Once you cross east of I 25, it's pretty filled in right to the base of mountains.

I guess you can expect the odd 'mis-hap' with that many balloooons in the one place and minimal landing area for them, glad nobody was hurt.

The Darth Vader Ballooon is fantastic!!! As are the other shapes must look awesome in person looking up at them! No trouble with X-Wing fighters then ? LoL

p.s OH..and Dogman your strapping looking young lad too hehe :)

No but we have, and really really need crowd controll from the local club of star wars "trekkies". They come out in all the costumes, mostly stormtroopers but a few aliens too. They hand out the trading cards so the kids stay a bit further from the balloon and don't tromp all over it before we get it stood up. Being with the most popular balloon here gets difficult. We need 7 storys of room, height and width, with a crowd of thousands trying to get close enough to touch it.

I guess the x wing fighters read the fed air regulations, and stay away. The balloons own the 5 mile circle of airspace for the week.

Pretty sweet.

I gotta say, while I dig Vader and the Bees, that Warsteiner is making me very, very thirsty. And I've got 5 1/2 hours until quitting time.

Incidentally, a buddy of mine left a couple Warsteiners in my fridge a couple nights ago. Suffice to say, I know what I'm doing in 6 hours.

Regardless, kudos from one mustachioed man-dog to another.
