This is going to be a slow paced project i'm afraid... Townhouse remodel is putting the squeeze on the Ebike budget.
But this will be my daily commuter bike so I can justify some expense along the way.

Here are my requirements:
-Cruiser bike, so I can get to work upright without my 50 year old hands going numb from MTB or Road bike.
-Speed of course.. the Grubee 500w hubmotor @48v only runs under 20mph on the flats. Painfully slow but still better than pedaling.
-RC Motor powered because I like where that's going.
-Use existing Ping 48v20ah pack to get started, but build a more robust pack later
-Belt drive... maybe chain, but direct rear wheel drive with freewheel [Clutch? ]
-Simple build...off the shelf parts. I live in a townhouse...I have no garage, machine shop, or fancy fabrication tools.
-Range needs to be minimum 15miles round trip with 2 miles of good hills each direction.
-Ability to ride in the rain/snow.. fenders and some waterproofness are required.
-Stealth.. I like it to look like a normal bike, so wires, motor, batteries, etc will all be tucked away.

I bought this bike off of Ebay today to build because,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=350080867703
-super cheap... 84.00 shipped [made offer for 94 and used 10% discount code, and it had free shipping]
-cable operated brakes and 7 speed shifter
-Good space behind seat tube at chain stays to mount motor in front of rear tire fender.
-mounting holes for racks and fenders
-Going to repaint it black so I don't care much about the existing paint damage or ghey graphics.

E-bike v2... is under way !

Slap a WE brushed hub kit on it and the ping will have you going close to 30 mph. And climb a 10% hill at at least 15 mph. WE brushed is fast, cheap, and takes 48v no problems. Your range should be around 20 miles. You won't be able to peadle that bike much faster than 22 mph though. Needs a monster front crank to peadle along at 30. Not many people notice my front hub motor, those that do think it's a drum brake.

Looks good, except for the 3 points above.
making those workout may need access to a machine shop, or atlease a good stock of home tools and a place to do machining/welding.
