I bought a 1500w fat bike conversion kit and installed it fairly easily.. have been riding it for the last two weeks and loving it.. until just yesterday.. I was riding my e bike to work going roughly 30 m.p.h. when out of no where the back tire seemed to lock up.. it felt like I had anti lock breaks or something.. almost threw me over the handlebars.. and then.. once it came to a stop !! the darn thing took off in reverse full throttle!! Before I could squeeze the front break to stop it DID throw me over the handlebars!!! Sending me to the pavement.. and for some reason I never let go of the hand grip which ended with the bike trying to drag me down the parking lot ! Once the bike fell over ..rear wheel spinning so fast I could hear it rapping out.. I was able to get up and push the power button to shut it down. Now it is stuck in a gear that I didn't even know it had .. reverse gear on an e-bike ? Why and how did this happen ..why is it happening

Check the kit instructions for "self learn" wires--they may have touched / shorted together, as using SL often switches wheel direction every time it is used.

If it's not that, then there's probably a reverse wire that's shorted to ground (most functions are active when grounded, inactive when not connected).

Could also be the motor halls are screwed up, some controllers can exhibit erratic behavior in this case.

Is the controller programmable, and who makes the kit?

It has CSC and shimeng.fl painted in white on the gear side of the rear wheel hub.. and the letters SSH circled on the outer edge of the hub and Y1915-240611 120.. I apologize... I now feel like a dummy in that I should of paid more attention to what I was buying ..I'm still new at this e-bike transportation.. I'm loving it so far.. just worried that I may of done something wrong to of caused this.. and even more that I may have damaged it to where I won't be able to enjoy the bike without costly repairs that I cannot now afford

And yes I was able to get each function set back to default settings.. well all but one .. and that was P05 GEAR NUMBER 3,5,9 And well before the bike went haywire on me the other day it was set to 5 and it was running great.. not an issue at all but now it does not top out until 9

I don't know how to diagnose or work with any of these cheap controllers because i only buy good programmable ones.

Would be helpful to post a picture of any labels on the kit to see if someone else could help you diagnose.
Most no-name cheap controllers are a black box effectively.. a good programmable controller will help you diagnose the issue and give you the option to run sensorless if the problem is your halls.

No support from the seller, i take it?

Must be a controller malfunction, Reversing a motor is pretty hard unless the controller has a dedicated reverse lead or learning leads, and these were exposed and dangling. They generally don't put those leads on dedicated motor/controller combos because they're not needed. WIthout those wires, you have to physically flip one or two pairs of motor wires to reverse a motor, so I suspect a chip failure.

You might post a link of the webpage where you bought the kit. If you have an install guide that shows the controller leads and their functions, show a picture of that,

I've heard of this happening with some Voilamart ebike kits. Sorry the bike crashed you badly, Did you have the brake lever cutoff switches hooked up? Write the seller and tell them you got injured.

.

My advice? Get a 40A "three mode" controller and swap it in. Then it won't matter so much what the state of your Hall sensors is.

For what it's worth, janky Halls is usually a result of overheating the motor, so maybe try to be aware of the times when you put the motor under full load at low RPM and keep it there for a while (long enough to build up waste heat).

The white learning wire that plugs into itself on lots of controllers will fix the issue, but when plugging in lift motor wheel because full throttle when plugged. Each moment the white learning wire is temporary connected, motor will swap direction. I heard swapping any single phase wire will also swap motor direction.

Yes, but you have to shuffle the Hall sensor wires when you do that. If there's a learn wire, then no need to swap phases, Halls or anything.
