The BMS is shrink wrapped, typical duct tape methods..

Cells are 26650's...

Ypedal,

What are the dimensions of just the battery pack as it came out of the enclosure?

Now i don't know if this was intentional, or a " Woops " but they don't include a pigtail or a connector to hook up to this pack.. how the hell is someone supposed to wire this up to their bike ?

Fortunately the one from EBK fits in there, so i'm using that for now, but otherwise you would have to either find one yourself, or open the pack and solder your own. ( voiding the " waranty " .. )

Plugged in the charger and topped it off.. it shipped nearly empty as it took about 4 hours to go green...

Thanks for the review Ypedal!!

I wonder what are the cell inside... they seems very similar to the K2 cell i have

I need to test K2 Energy cells too for a 3000cells EV project...

They have the same brown cardbord wrap and 26650. They have the EV and the POwer model...

the EV is 3200mAh max 25A 19miliohm and the Power 2500mAh 150A peak 50A continuous ( very close to the A123 and have 10 miliohm)

I guess 3.2Ah x 3 = close to 10Ah?.. that may be these cells?

I'm cycling them now... I have 6 to test while i wait for the CC-400 to begin the test for the E-S members cells.

Here is my new setup for fast charging individual cells and passibe balance (each of the 20 cell holder will have a 0.2ohm resistor on the + that will link to a common large braid to the 150A 3.6V power supply. but each cell charge at 5A max

The next big question.. How does it perform :?:

Like i always do with a new pack, charge fully, drain 50 % at low rate ( in my case 3 amps with my LBD setup ) , and repeat 3 times, each time allowing a few hours of ballancing once the green light comes on the charger...

Then the tests started !

At 8.8 amps, 1st BMS cutout = 6.75 ah ! :| not very impressive..

This BMS cuts out, and automatically comes back online by itself once the voltage recovers, cutout, on, cutout, on , etc.. cycling itself on and off.. vs the EBK that shuts down and stays off until your reset by disconecting and reconecting... I prefer the EBK method as it stops the discharge and prevents overdischarge from the power comming back and allowing more drain....

Checking each cell group, one of the 3P groups was at the 2.3v mark, while all 11 others are at 2.8v indicating a severe imballance....

Hey Doc !.. nope.. these cells are nowhere near that kind of performance... I tested 30 amps using my BMX with the modified crystalyte controller.. at 30 amps the voltage drops like a rock.. 3 seconds at 30 amps from a full charge drops to 31v... gulp.. i'm sure the 14 awg wires don't help either..

I recharged fully, leaving the charger plugged in for 5 hours on green hoping for joy, the P group that was at 2.3v also finished charging first !!! i suspect one of the 3 cells in that group is weak or leaking current.. only way to know is to rip the spot welds off.. and check each cell.. that's next on my list.

Next cycle provided 6.65 ah.. no improvement...

Hmmm.. I would call that A TRUE VOLTAGE DROP !!! ....................

not very encouraging!

sounds like their motor perform better than the battery :?

Have you tested the Ah of any other parallel group? cause the Ah you got is exactly the Ah of the weak P group...

Measuring any other group would make a clear reference for conparaison between the weak one and the" good" one?

Dang, not even up to 1c. Most of us have bikes that draw at least 10 amps.

gaston, this surprise pack is the one sold by golden motors?

before your tear it apart at the welds, maybe you could try charging with jason's charger? it doesn't look like the plugs for the sense lines match, but it would be interesting to see how the EBK BMS was able to handle the pack by replacing it directly, so that all the observed loss of performance could be properly determined to be in the cells or the welds, just thinking.

or maybe a ping BMS has an identical plug, or you could make a jumper from the other BMS to this pack with short jumper wires jammed into the plug as a temporary measure to evaluate it on the bench. it just would help to see exactly how much of this difference is the cell and how much the BMS, know what i mean?

Just to be sure, are the recent posts from pages 7 and 8 reviewing another of E-BikeKit's 36 volt, 10 amp hour, LiFePo4 battery packs? Or is this someone else's battery pack such as Golden Motors?

Sorry to be so dense ...

No worries.. .. pages 7 and 8 are from a competitor's pack with similar box ( not spelling out any competitor names as per ebk's request ! lol ).. this goes to show that you often get what you pay for..

Pages 1 thru 6 of this thread are of the EBK pack.

AAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

like we didn't know. sure would be nice to swap the BMS though, and the charger too, to see what else is there. i can't imagine jason would mind, just for the knowledge gained sorta thing. but it's your hassle, not mine.

Ping makes consistent excellent batteries. Almost zero problems http://www.pingbattery.com/servlet/Cart?searchpath=23179 $200 cheaper.
I would choose a ping.

Dang, I thought I had followed this thread pretty good, but I thought the crappy battery was the other one. Now I understand the poor perfomance of the second one! Some people still haven't figured out that bargain lifepo4 is no bargian. Lousy round cells strike again.

I would choose a ping.

Ping batteries are foil pouches, come wrapped in duct tape and ship from china... the Ebikekit pack is made of laser welded prismatic cells inside an aluminum box with the BMS safely inside, ships from NJ.

These 2 packs are different animals, and there is a time and place for each one.. the EBK at this time is only available in 36v 10ah format.. pings come in various form factors.

Nothing " wrong " with the DT packs, but they are a different class of pack.

Yup, Ya'll know I love my ping, but the ebikekit offering is first class. The second one, an inferior battery in a similar box.
