E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

My Bomber is the first bike I've ever owned that I have no desire to soup up. It's already 6 x the legal limit. Rather than more motor power, I'm more interested in more battery power, but even that's not a big concern. There's also some nice red leather streamers I have me eye on.

I've now passed 1000 miles on my bike, trouble free. I'm not really missing having to do a lot of maintenance, and repairs. I learned not to use a hose to wash my bike. Now I just give it a sponge bath. It's pretty easy to keep clean anyway since there's no oil leaking out, and no exhaust.

I'm very pleased with my hard wired, blindingly bright headlight, and taillight that draw less than 1/2 an amp.

I probably need to check my brake pads pretty soon. I bought two sets of replacements on eBay for $7 each shipped.

Stealth bomber 455 just landed here in Christchurch New Zealand After a tour of most of the NZ ports...

Anyway I am very disappointed to find it has the smaller standard display.. as i cant read it when i am riding due to poor eyesight really bummed about this.

Also looks like mines a Friday bike as there is no rubber grommet where the cables go through the frame so brake lines and control cables will get cut by the sharp edge of the fake carbon fiber / aluminium panel. (see pics) Also no rubber gasket on the cables at the rear where they exit the frame either so water will get in the big gap here... My fighter has both these holes sealed up with large grommets as i would expect! :x

Anyways the good bit is there are no friggin streamers or road tyres going on my bike!

Congrats on receiving the new bike. The full red colour scheme looks superb. Bad luck on not receiving the new display. Unfortunately it is only just being released now so I believe bikes ordered from now will start to receive the new displays. Either way, the CA3 is still one of the best Ebike displays available on the planet and no one should feel hard done by with one of these fitted to your bike.

I don't think two missing grommets makes it a Fridy bike lol. It may also be a manufacturing decision not to fit these as the aluminium plate is too soft to damage the wires and very little moisture gets in through this spot. Keep in mind, the battery compartments on a Stealth are designed to breath. With a battery warming up and cooling down, condensation can form inside and as such it needs some where to go. I am sure you have seen that at the bottom of the frame there are breather holes also.

I look forward to hearing your riding impressions especially comparing the two models.

My bike doesn't have and grommets front or rear either. I don't think it matters though, since the bike doesn't vibrate that kind of stuff doesn't wear like usual. In 1100 miles I don't have any sign of wear on the cables.

Even if you had the bigger display it wouldn't help much, because the location is too far out of the line of sight to be much use when riding.

Streamers aren't for everyone. You got to be pretty high level to fully appreciate them. 8)

My bike does not have front and back gromets, ontly two down below to the controller.
Yeah the front hole chewed on my cables, this is stupid. The aluminum corners are pretty sharp. I had to fit a bit of rubber there.
Nice red bike btw.

Am I the first one with this thing on a Stealth?
I think you are. :)

Ducky: The "Mini" will be perfect for the Fighter!
Yes I agree. Only thing I'm worried about now is how to mount it. I can't fabricate anything like you did. Maybe I can just screw it directly to the frame with some new holes.
What would you recommend?

Cheers

Sure, you can just drill four new holes in the frame for the controller.
I could also do that but I usually don't like to impact on the stock design and structure.
You will need to buy four M5 screws for the controller and drill the holes in the frame with same diameter (5mm).
The mount is the least of your worries. The cabling and soldering is time consuming(hardest part for newbs). But you have Hyena and other amazing masterminds who could help you. I am like the only one here in this God forgotten Country, hehe

See that the handles are missing on top? They went to the controller mounting.
Mac's are great, nice thick aluminum :)

Heh, nice one Hugh, looks like you'll need to rename yourself to HugeRedOne22. You'll be too busy hanging on to glance at the display too much I suspect, given some of the trails around you in Christchurch. Glance at it when you've stopped for a rest. The new displays are only just starting to be incorporated into production run Bombers, don't feel too bad. As Kepler says, the CA is a great product, very versatile and well tested.

The cabling on Bombers and Fighters is different. There are more cables to run on a Bomber, so they don't usually run a grommet set, unlike the Fighter, which has fewer cables to manage and therefore uses a grommet set.

Bike looks great, even better when you have a Fighter to play with as well. I expect to see some serious testing going on in your patch..now stop griping and go ride the thing..

Yeah, I will probably also figure it out for myself. I've learnt a fair bit and can actually half solder now...so maybe not the newb I once was. :)

Lol  Now that's the right way to use a Mac...not good for much else. :p

Nah he's doing it a favour. :)

Ducky, your controller is super huge. The stock fighter controller is smaller i believe.
Not to worry about the Mac. The logicboard is dead along with the graphics anyway.

Hi Kepler,

Thanks everyone has made me feel better.

It was your reviews of the fighter and your modified bomber on electricbike.com that originally caught my attention to the stealth bikes!

I don't think the rear cable slot will be a problem for the cables just was worried about water etc. The front hole though is quite sharp around the edges and i am worried with off road riding the cables may get damaged. I think i will fit a rubber grommet or something if i can find one?

My first thoughts after riding the bomber today was that it feels more planted? I think its actually the rear shock gives a plusher feel to the bike and the mass of the bike gives a more solid feel? I also like that i can pedal at a bigger range of speeds although some gears feel noisy?

I still really love the fighter though its a really nice bike!

Tomorrow and Sunday my son and i will go trail riding and we will see how the bomber goes...

Those grommets aren't an issue, I have about 3600 miles on mine, I am betting that at least 2K are off road miles. No issues with any cable or wire housings getting cut or sliced.

Nice vid hitting the corner hot QR.

very nice red bomber and black fighter.

managed to get hold of a few pictures of the new display. You can see that it is quite well sealed and has beed designed with ease of use in mind.

And for those who are interested in a upgrade path, I believe it may be offered in the future however it would require that the frame be cut to suit which i am sure would put most people off.

I just found out about the new system today. You can switch from legal to illegal on the go. The display also shows temp of both the controller and motor, now how cool is that? $399 added to the cost of any new Bomber, Fighter or Hurricane.

I like it but there was nothing said about more power.

That's great news John. As much as I like the CA and still use the old small screens, I'm happy there'll be an upgrade path...I wouldn't be put off by having to cut the frame and I'm happy to wait.

Some pics and a video of our ride today at the Waimakairi river park stealth Fighter and Bomber. I Really like my bomber now after a great afternoon ride in the forest!
