Hi guys i haven't posted on here for a while but as my posts a few months back i have replaced my VBOX so i have a second hand one with one of the output shaft springs broken (its missing 1st 3rd and 5th gears) if any one is interested in making a offer comes complete with sprocket and shifter crank arms complete ??,
I've also just treated myself to a yamaha yxz 1000r buggy anyone else on here got one or into this kinda $hit awesome bit of kit!!!!!!!!!!

Problem with selling a Vboxx is there are so few applications for it. The Bomber, and this weird frame made in collaboration with Suntour are the only ones I know of. Tell you what, if you are in the states, I will pay for shipping, and you send it to me. I want to take it apart and see if I can repair it. If I can repair it, I will send it back to you, and you will have a working VBoxx. The reason I am volunteering to do this is strictly educational, and the fact that winter is coming upon us. If interested, PM me and we will work out the details.

1abv,

Isn't the original Stealth throttle just a Crystalyte throttle?

It is, and its a decent unit. My Bomber is almost 5 years old, well over 10,000 miles, and going strong. Throttle has never given any problems. I may have as many at 17000 miles on it, problem is, my Dad keeps doing a hard reset on the CA.

Yes it is. The ones that many of the vendors sell will that supposedly work with Crystalyte controllers will have that dead spot issue and outside of Stealth AU I have not been able to find a vendor that sells them. For example the one listed on electric riders amazon site and on their website is not the correct image they will send you a different throttle.

they sent me a different throttle... too bad because the one they send was much more robustly built then the Crystalyte....

Post a pic of the throttle you got, I am curious to see it.

Sorry I don't have them anymore. Just sent them back.
Looked just like this but w/o the key. The grips are identical. came with a 1/2 grip and the other 1/2 to make the throttle side complete and also came with a full grip for the other side.

Dunno if anyone has ever been head to head with a bull but not a "pleasant happy go lucky" kinda feeling… more of a huh…. "funny I didn't realize that I could shit myself so quickly" feeling..

Wound up making these the other day…
I had an old motorcycle stand that I have been using for my bike but it would rest on the swing arm… no bueno the phase wires would get pinched…So I cut a pipe in 1/2 and welded them to the "feet" of the swing arm stand and rubberized them so they would lift the bike via the axle bolts. This works great 90% of the time only time I have to adjust is when I'm taking the rear wheel off.

When I was 9, I was charged by a Texas long horn bull, while riding an orange Suzuki DS 80. I out ran it, but to this day,36 years later, it still sends a shiver down the spine when I recall it.

for some reason this made me think of this scene from full metal jacket

Did it chase you ? No bulls in these parts, but I did get chased by a particularly nasty dog a while back. Only just managed to outrun him. I imagine a bomber would give you a fighting chance.

That bugger was staring me down and in the middle of the trail, I stopped and we had a moment. Then he turned and walked away..thank god…freaky...

I did get chased by a english bull terrier once that was off leash in a non off leash park.. That was actually funny.. The woman who owned him was yelling and running after him as he chased me down.. I had plenty of reserve so I had some fun... The dog chased after me doing loops round this soccer field while the owner was running in circles chasing us
he he….

Such a classic Jay. I was in the Navy, not the Marines, but Full Metal Jacket reminds me of Boot Camp. BTW, my division, #241 1996, was the very last division in the Navy that issued M16s to recruits. The US Navy decided that Sailors didn't need basic firearms skills unless their job required it in the Fleet. Of course what I did required knowing the shit out of all weapons systems.

Here in Spain is not difficult to find bull in the country side... And it is worst to finding them when you are walking

Hi,
I have to agree with Allex's previous comment re forks and motor being the best upgrades.
The motor replacement is more than well worth it. It's improved the bikes handling as much as the fork replacement (with Fox 40s) and the shock respring/revalve.
I've lost a bit of top speed and gained a bit of low down which suits me.
I installed a MXUS V3, with a custom machined double sealed axle into a 17" rim, with a 3.5" knobby tyre that fits the swingarm with about 8mm clearance each side.
While the large tyre works realy well in the bush, I will probably go to a 3.25" or 3.5" trials tyre as the knobby tyre is way too obtrusive.
Cheers
Clinton

Hey Clinton, here is a good candidate for a 3.5-17 trials tire. Check it out. http://www.veerubber.co.th/2013/?p=643&cur-cat=motorcycle

BTW, that set up is nice, and that it one big axle. Is that a Maddin Axle?

Thanks Rix, these might not be available in Aus, though I will investigate.
I know I can get a 3.25.
3.5 may require delivery from OS; can get silly exy for a tyre.

The axle is essentially a copy and very similar to Madin's axle with M16x1.5 threads and 17mm long custom nuts for security.
I wanted to seal it up for liquid cooling so I machined a sealing sleave out of the leftover axle steel to seal the cable side.
By putting a big flat (28mm) on the brake side of the axle and retaining as large a flat as possible on the drive side (19mm) and having both flats sit into the swingarm groove, I was able to do away with the axle lock on the drive side. This allowed me to space the rear sprocket out to properly align the sprockets.

Allex, it is as much lighter as the MXUS hub compared to the standard Crystalite (5-6kg?).
Combined with the larger volume tyre, the reduced unsprung weight was immediately noticeable, particularly on rough rocky trails that I predominantly ride.
I just slammed a gutter at about 20kmh and it soaked it and kept going. I didn't even feel the rim contact [probably couldn't do this much faster]. Even with my 19" TUBLISS setup on 2.75" dual sport tyre I could not do such and get away with it.

Bigbore, I am not sure of the weight. I will measure it next time I have it off. As I've said above it's at least 5-6kg lighter than my previous setup with a 2.75x19 and TUBLISS on a 19x1.4 rim and then 19x1.85* rim.

*Please note; I found the 1.85 rim unsuitable, as the smallish 2.75" tyre presumably cannot bag out over the side of the rim and is more prone to pinching the sidewall on hits. I pinch flatted three tyre sidewalls in three to four weeks [with 1.85" rim] where I never did so with a 1.4" rim.
For this reason I have gone back to the 1.4" wide rim.
Cheers,
Clinton

Very nicely done Clinton. Thats a top notch axle. Your are correct, with a 1.85" wide rim, any tire less than 3" wide just doesn't fit right. Yah. it flattens out wider, but there is alot less sidewall. Anyway really like your mods.

Love your axle Clinton. That is an ideal solution for sure, but not many can do that.

For the rest of us, I am in the final stages of getting some clamping High Power Stealth torque blocks made up. I designed these myself, and will be getting them CNC'd in the coming weeks for initial testing:
Angle_3.jpg

Angle_2.jpg

Angle_1.jpg

They are suitable for both the Fighter and Bomber as they can accommodate axle sizes up to 14mm.
I've slightly reduced the bolt hole size since these images were taken and it's now sized to fit an M5 bolt which also ensures no interference from the swing-arm lips.

I've been talking with a local supplier about getting them made in 304 stainless, but that is looking like it may be too expensive at nearly more than $80 per side just to get them to me. I'm going to explore getting them made in regular grade steel which should reduce cost.

So I have 2 questions for the community:

1) How many are interested in purchasing a set of these torque blocks from me if I get a bunch made up?

2) What would you prefer; higher cost stainless steel, or lower cost regular steel?

Obviously cost will be lower if more people are interested, so chime in if your keen.

Cheers

Very nicely done CD. look forward to hearing about your field testing and evaluation.
