E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

It also helps to think about the natural target market these guys are aiming for, megacities in Asia where they're choking in pollution. The scooter is already well established as a preferred transport mode there, with lots of people selling petrol by a litre bottle at a time in an unregulated industry. In that context, it makes a lot of sense. The weak point that I see in their offering is a DRM locked battery, which is an interesting bit of IP, though they're also considering secondary uses for it as a power source for other things. Article with a bit more depth and scrutiny is at http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/5/7484171/gogoro-smartscooter-electric-scooter-removeable-battery

Thats a sick mid drive. Could be a game changer among mid drives. I realy like the fact that its not using MTB chains and sprockets to deliver power from the motor to the wheel. Its using a seperate chain for that. NIce.

I agree, it could be a game changer. Worth noting though its not technically a mid drive. Its a mid mounted direct drive. In this design the drive is not through the chainring but directly to a second rear sprocket and freewheel. Means your power is not limited by what a standard bike drive train can handle which seems to be around 1500W for any reasonable reliability. Not sure what the target output of the bike is but I would imagine it would be 3kW to 5kW and possibly more for the overclockers. 8)

Yah Kepler, you nailed it, its techically a direct drive mid drive unit. Still has the advantages of the unsuspended mass that a hub motor has, and with this design, it could handle alot more kw over a mid drive unit that uses a MTB chain to transfer power to the rear wheel. The limits would be what the primary drive chain could handle, and of course battery controller combo. I think as you do that this could be a an easy 3-5kw output. I know a (Mike from Electric Rider) with a mid drive running 14.2kw on 48 volts with #43 stainless drive chain on a chopped up bike build. Of course he is stretching the chain alot.

Completely unrelated I've been thinking about making the bomber moire badd ass...as one does beyond the usual more power suspension etc.. I want a damn clutch! Don't care about gears just a clutch.. Who knows how long the motor would last but spinning the crap out of it and slipping the clutch a LA 125 2 stroke style would be epic! I leave it to all of you to figure it out! And go!
Interesting , seems most people with dirt bikes want a Rekluse clutch these days , which makes their dirt bike more like an electric .

Very true Brute. The Rekluse is an awesome unit. I remember when they first started up. Boise is my home town. The only negative comments I have heard about the Rekluse strangely enough, were from diehard racers. Believe it or not, there are some that think the Rekluse gives offroad racers an unfair advantage. Which I guess is true because it works. 7 year or so back, I was flagging a checkpoint at the ISDE qualifier in Idaho City. Even though I haven't race it in over 22 years, I still help out on occasion when I have time. While the riders were waiting at CP9 for their minute, the Rekluse topic came up as one of the machines was running it. While the rider was praising the clutch to another rider on his minute, another rider behind those guys says, "you got a Rekluse on that" "Why don't you just let someone else ride your bike". The Rekluse rider asked what he meant. The other riders says half the talent of riding the race in Idaho city fast was knowing when to slip the clutch on the rocky tight stuff to keep the machine in a gear higher, and carry speed through the technical and not flip over on tight uphill switch backs. Then adds "clutch slippin skills with the right amount of throttle isn't required on your machine". As the minute arrive, the time card was flipped and Rekluse rider, along with the other guy took off on their minute so I don't know if the discussion continued at the CP10. Anyway your comment made me remember that and laugh Also, the more I think about it, the more I agree with you how the Rekluse does make the dirt bike feel more electric, especially if you take off in 3rd or 4th gear from a dead stop. The acceleration just keeps going and going until wound out in that gear, kind of like electric bikes do.

I have just bought a stealth bomber and wondered what helmet to get and what do u all wear and which one looks the best?
I presume its a full face one?

Thats outstanding Steve, what color did you get? Post some pics. As far as helmets go, I have two I wear. I wear a regular cross country MTB type helmet when trail riding with pops, and I also have a scate park helmet. Its tough, but not as tough as a full face MTB Down Hill helmet. If you are leaning towards a full face helmet, check out Down Hill racing helmets. About the only difference between a MTB DH Helmet and a full on MX Helmet is the DH helmets are a few ounces to a pound lighter and about 90% impact protective a a full on motorcross helmet.

Picking it up tomorrow and its white with white rims and triple 888 shocks mt4 brakes and white handlebars and hope stem in gold
rode it today and just turn the throttle and it went nice and noticed when I pedalled on a standing start is felt faster
and he told me it had 9 gears and to start in a high gear to go faster is that correct?
I just been looking at a 661 comp full face helmet are they any good?
thx
steve

Depends on how you want your bike to respond. Yes having an auto clutch on hill climbs / super slow technical is pretty cool. The auto clutch does an excellent job at engaging and leave the rider to focus on line, body pos etc. I've ridden quite a few of them. They can be set up to engage differently depending on rider pref. Down sides: Unless you rev the motor they have no engine braking for downhills...

On a Rekluse the clutch still works like a regular clutch if you want to use it like that. You can slip it at high speeds, low speeds etc.

I prefer a standard clutch not because a Rekluse is cheating bla bla bla. It's because I enjoy the challenge. They do have a really cool policy where if you don't like it they will take it back and give you a 100% refund.

I too am waiting on the Bell Super 2R helmet, looks like it might be just what I wanted.

Steve, sounds like your bike looks nearly exactly like mine - well it will when my white rims arrive  I don't have white handlebars though.

Sounds like you should call your Bomber the "white lightening". As far as gear selection goes, for road riding if you really want to pedal assist, just use 7th 8th, and 9th gears. The lower gears on flat paved surfaces aren't neccessary, In fact, I could almost pedal my old Bomber under human power only in 7th gear. I find that climbing hills and offroad, I used 5th-7th the most. 1-4th gears are really great for human power only and if you ride until your battery is spent, you will use those gears to ride back to your home or truck.

I don't think I'll be riding today. It's 24 f outside right now, with an expected high of a balmy 38 degrees.

Rix is right on about gear selection. 7th, 8th, and 9th when riding in traffic. Seems like the fastest way to blast away from a light is to start in 7th, and skip to 9th.

If I'm pedaling around at bicycle speeds, like 10 to 15 mph, I like 5th, and 6th. Sometimes 4th if it's uphill a little. At these speeds your range is about 75 miles.

Haaa man i can't believe it,just ur luck
Colour wise i like black as mine is, but i do like white it stands out
Depends if ur worried about getting seen where u ride.
Upgrades- front forks are a must but up grade as u go u can pick up forks cheaper than thay charge
Spose u could buy it through ur firm but not many businesses need a £9000 ebike,
best run that one past ur accountant.

Ah...shit the bed ed that sucks. Well, I like your resolve Steve, and if you order now, you will have it in plenty of time for summer riding, northern hemisphere that is. Stealth makes an awesome machine, and you are doing yourself a great service for wanting to go this route. Stealth will hook you up with white no problem, the wheels painted white will cost a little extra. I ordered my Fighter in Army Green with Army Grey wheels, there was an additional charge, even though it wasn't much as I recall. If you get it with white shock spring, front hub, bars, seat post, seat clamp, swingarm, and so on, the price will climb quickly as those are custom order by order mods that take up time for Stealth to do. If you want to maximize color bang for the buck, get a standard white Bomber.

9000GBP, is that really that much in UK? You should order directly from Stealth, should be cheaper.

Hey, it just occured to me, right in front of my face and I missed it. Allex, are you still selling your super trick Bomber? Steve's deal just fell through, Steve, why not look at Allex's Bomber. Its also white. Win win.

That's a bummer isn't it? I can understand about being hooked though. Better just order it from the factory in the color you want. Aside from color I don't think you need to worry about any upgrades. It's more fun to do that yourself, and besides that, Bombers are very easy to work on.

One thing you don't have to worry about, is if what you're buying is worth the money. Stealth's are definitely worth what they cost.

Normally I would always buy a black bike, and I think black Bombers look the best by far, but when you're talking about a Stealth there's other considerations, like how legal are you going to be riding it where you live? We've gotten to the point now where it's almost impossible to be 100% legal once you get out of bed in the morning. Where I live a Bomber is quasi legal if ridden with the limiter intact, but even so, a Bomber looks like a monster of power just parked. So the question of color becomes, how to hide it best. Since I wasn't sure what the reception was going to be like, I had to decide if I wanted to cloak it in black, or hide it in plain view in bright red.

You have to evaluate your own situation, but I decided on red over black. My thinking was black is definitely stealthy, but once noticed it looks like you might be trying to hide something. Red on the other hand screams look at me, nothing illegal going on here LOL. In the end I don't think it really mattered, because I haven't had any problems, but just something to consider. White seems like a nice unintimidating color to me though.

Speaking of the look of the bike I don't know if any of you mongrels out there have had the issue of the carbon sticker cracking but I surely do and its real F'ing annoying. So I went to take it off. How the side panel is made I don't get at all. The carbon sticker is sandwiched between the aluminum panel and the steel surround. The sticker is the entire size of the inside of the aluminum panel. The part of the aluminum that is underneath the steel is covered by the sticker. The sticker underneath is covered w silicone and attached to the steel..F'ing weird....
