Hello there, I want to use a lipo battery for my e-bike. What specs should I be really interested in. Would I be able to use these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320531192281. I wanted to convert it into a 36v 10000mah battery pack probaby use about 4 of these packs. I was planning on using the golden motor/conhis mini motor 350watt 36v motor. So basically would I be able to use that battery. Thanks in advance.

thanks

That would work if you parallel them up, but those look expensive for the small capacity you get. For a bike better to get cheaper ones with larger capacity, 4ah at minimum. I see 5000mah and 5200mah batteries on ebay right now..

These big cheap ebay batteries will say 20c or 30c or whatever, but are more like 4-8c from what several of the people on this forum have seen. They should be fine even in a single parallel string on a mild ebike though, and they do deliver true capacity even if their current handling is over stated. I would go 2p if you see more than 4c at 1p. I tried pulling 8c. They'll do it but they sag really badly and that can't be good for them. Also I had to repair one DOA pack out of the three I ordered, so you can be sure QC will be iffy.

Thats not a bad price really. Even with just three packs in series it should work, but 4 would be more like it. If the controller has 63v caps in it, you could even go five in a string. The controller will be likely to be 20 amps or less, so the c rate of a string of single packs won't be a problem. Even a 30-50 amp controller should be ok with those.

Am I confusing the zeros? thats a 10 ah lipo pack right?

I believe that listing is a 10ah or 10000mah. I asked him about it and he confirmed it. I thought that it was a good price fo a 10ah 11.1v battery. I also thought ebike don't need a high c rate. Looking at ping's lifep04 their c rate is like 2-3c. Also I thought I had to wire batteries into a serial pattern rather than parallel to raise th voltage t0 36v. I'll probably need 4 packs. Thanks

Yeah, 10ah is not bad for $60 untill he charges $27 a pack to ship them WTF kinda deal is that? Why doesn't he just say $87.00 a pack and be done with it. That's the problem with half of the ESCAMERS out there. Just tell me the real price not what I want to see.
It still might be a good price, just don't like the BAIT & SWITCH beal.

Keep in mind, as pouch cells get bigger, the heating and losses go up, and C-rate goes down.

Yeah, he should need at least 3c cells for a 350 watt motor. I'd think he'll be fine with those using that motor setup. Might want to check if with shipping, a 10 ah ping is any cheaper.

Oh duh, I glanced at it and thought it was 1000mah. Thats great there's 10ah cells out there now!

Probably not for the power users, but the C should work for the majority..

Would this setup be better.

4 X ZIPPY Flightmax 5000mAh 6S1P 15C = $215.36 + shipping. In a parallel + serial battery pack setup i'll get about 44v 10 ah. That should be good for my motor also.

What other items you all would recommend me to get with these zippy batteries? I havn't seen too many people using zippy packs for ebike applications.

Grasshopper, your eyes are open but you do not see
Plenty of us are using zippy and turnigy packs.
They are most definitely a better option than "cheap" no name ebay lipos.
Take it from someone who's used both and seen the light.
for $60 + shipping for those 10ah cells they're the same price as buying 2 lots of 5ah zippys. A few years back when I bought cheap ebay lipos they were alot cheaper than the zippys and did actually deliver their quoted ah capacity at 2-3C max, but sagged like SLAs.
Now that they're the same price theres there's no contest. Case closed. Thankyou, come again. :)

I agree. The high shipping cost has to be taken in to account, but HC still works out a better deal. A very short while ago you could make the case that the ebay stuff worked out better for people who would never use the high Cmax, but now that the price has come down on the zippies..
