Hehe... Hiya. Ontario here. Where stuff gets "murky" maybe is on paths, etc that are NOT considered a provincial "road". Like in a park maybe, for example. Then petty bureaucrats get to make up their own rules. It's said that "money makes the world go `round"? But I'm pretty sure fear and ignorance are right up there on the list of peoples "concerns".

When I first started living better electrically (for transportation, by using a tiny stand up kick scooter with "extra kick" via electric motor and batteries that I rode for thousands of miles all over town - Toronto) my "problem" was I was actually living in a park (the Toronto Islands) at that time.

And while my Island neighbors all told me my scooter seemed "great", "eco-friendly", etc. my EV world came crashing down one day when the City of Toronto employee responsible for the Island park told me my scooter was no longer welcome on the islands (where I lived). That there had been "concerns" expressed by some (unnamed) citizens.

(BTW, Municipal Code #608 here refers to lots of stuff but the nearest I can figure bans "Motorized Recreational Vehicles". There was NO WAY that tiny scooter was "recreational" for me as I used it to travel for work and for shopping and visiting...)

My 2 cents? If you are tapping about a ebike that "looks like a bike" and don't ruffle any feathers while in operation I say go for it. :)

It can come down to individual pathways being under city or town law, or private rules like on a college campus that is private property.

To see about the larger picture, look up your motor vehicle laws for the province.

Then ignore it all, and ride like a gentleman, and you can likely use the trails. If you look like a regular bike, that is.

That's the way it works for me. All the multi use trails posted no motors. I ride them all the time and cops just ignore me when I'm seen. A few stupid people have confronted me, but never law enforcement. Those confronting me objected to ALL bicycles btw.
