Hi there. I Just got A 36v ecotric Chinese mountain bike on EBay. They claimed 20mph it only goes 14 mph. Seller sends me a picture of a white wire with a black plug simply disconnect they said and done. Well I just opened up to do so and no such white wire exists alone as they described. Only thing I see that resembles it has 3 wires. One white one red one black. I unplugged these and bike doesn’t run. So my question- is anyone familiar with this model bike or speed control setup? Does anyone know if all I have to do is Just snip the white wire? I have a pic of the plug with the 3 wires.

We should delete the other post so people don't start answering in two places.

I don't know about that particular model, but many will have a 3 speed switch. With the wires cut or disconnected, it defaults to speed 2. To get speed 3, two of the wires need to be connected. If you pick the wrong one, you get speed 1, which is really slow.

To post pictures, go the "Attachments" tab below the text box and add the picture file.

My Ecotric 20" Fat Bike with wires pulled out. This is not the mountain bike, but the folding fat bike.
Le Wires.jpg. I figure you pulled them out too.

This is the speed limiter wire. It doesn't change the top speed very much with throttle, if connected/disconnected, but does change the strength of the PAS levels. PAS 1 would go from 12 mph top speed to 14 mph top speed. Top speed was like 22 mph on the 36V battery, using a bike computer calibrated to the actual wheel circumference. This bike didn't have an LCD display.

Thanks guys. I’m very persistent, and knowledgeable about electronics as I’ve been in Rc car, planes since Very young, and am an ac installer. So Since I’m so persistent I couldn’t wait for advice before opening the speed control and trouble shooting it again with a bit more patience and I figured it out. It turns out I did find a looped wire just like the white wire with the black plug described by the seller and u tube videos. And It was a (Blue wire) that Looped back in the controller. I hope this helps someone else in the future with this issue on similar models. My bike now goes 20-21mph instead of 15mph. So basically which ever wire you find looped out and back Into the speed controller no matter the color will solve the speed limiter problem. Again thanks everyone. I’m sure I’ll visit this site again, as I want to find a cheap way to convert my Friction drive 4stroke 35 cc gas bike into a hybrid, well tribrid, lol because in the city I’m in currently Gas bicycle’s will get you arrested no matter the size or speed. But electric won’t. 🙄 Go figure! I love my Gas Chopper as I don’t want to give up the range of Gas or the comfort of a bike with extended forks. Probably gonna go with a 36v front hub kit. But open to cheaper suggestions. Thanks 😎👍🏼🤙🏼
