I am looking at an Elite Elements programmable meter on ebay to monitor some solar panel charging, plus battery discharging. I see from older threads that many here have used and abused monitors from this seller. Rather than try to go across the language divide with the seller, I thought I'd ask some questions here.

Here is a sample listing, happens to be on the Australia ebay site:

First about shunts in general.
-If you use a shunt of much larger capacity than your typical current, does the accuracy suffer? By enough to matter? I would occasionally have a large discharge (a starter motor for a generator) to size for, and I'm concerned that the other 99% of the time my ongoing 1-2 amp discharge rate won't be measured very accurately.

-Does the length of wire to/from the shunt have to be calibrated somehow?

Re the unit itself, if anyone knows:
-Does it retain calibrations and AH capacity settings when powered off?

-If you have used this unit, would you recommend it?
