This was my first e-bike 2009
And tho I still like it, it only does about 15-20 mph. My daughter likes riding it with me because I let her ride in front on the seat. This is my second e-bike project which is a build this time!
New folding bike platform. Compatti bike. The welds could have been a little better from china and it had a blemish under the paint job and arrived with a defective front rim. They sent me a new rim and aside from all that it works well. View attachment 18 This is a mockup of where I intended to place my battery. View attachment 17 I bid for my battery on Ebay and got it for $290 including a 5 amp charger and bms. It is a LiFePo4 48 volt 20 Ah V-Power battery that I bought from cammy-cc. It came well packaged. I was very happy with the seller and all of the good contact. Even tho they are located in china they were easy to work with. I was able to pick which battery shape I wanted. I changed my mind about where I was going to mount the battery because I was anxious to get her on the road. In the end I don't think I saved myself much time.
I contact cemented the battery to the drawer of this box.
Then I reinforced the inside with wood strips for more support and for screwing in the outer case sides.attachment=0]P1010011.jpg[/attachment] Then I added the side cases which were also a different sized cd holders. Those were screwed into the inner support wood that I previously installed in the main box.View attachment 16
View attachment 14 I added the controller and cycle analyst shunt to one side case and the bms, charger port, key switch and fuse to the other side case. If I had it all to do over i would have switched sides with the bms and the controller because when I ride I leave the controller case door partially open to keep it cool. This is on the left hand side next to traffic. This causes excitement from people thinking something is going to fall out. I am constantly getting " your case is open" by well meaning people who are alerting me. Maybe thats why I was paced by the cops one day also.
When I am charging the battery I leave the bms side open.
Still planning on adding a dc/dc converter for 12 volt someday. All attachments are easy to unplug for quick and easy removal of system off back rack.

Well I screwed up posting pictures somehow so some of them are not in order.
I had to add a solid stainless steel seat post to keep the weight from bending it and causing my rear rack to rub my wheel. At first, I was concerned about all of the weight at the back of the bike but I got used to it. I would not recommend a woman ride with this much weight up high on a back rack. 30 pounds is what my rack box weighs. I put a Crystalyte (phoenix racer) 5303 hub motor kit on this bike and it goes a good 37 mph on the flat. I really enjoy this bike and am happy how nice it turned out. Notice my daughters tow trailer that I built for her years ago. She rides like a queen! Cheers...
