Hello,
I have your basic enduro style ebike frame, looks like a HPC Wolverine, that will weigh just over 120lbs and I weight 225. Considering we are nearing 350lbs I have heard I need a 750lb coil spring or higher. I am wondering if anyone has found a dirtbike or atv rear shock that fits within a 210mm and 240mm range? I have a 650 coil but it feels just right on a downhill bike so I'm worried about stacking more on the 650lb spring.

Has anyone ever pot a DNM 750 spring on a Rockshox shock? If I could figure out the dimensions of the dnm mm22LAR-230 coil spring it might just fit on my 240mm Rockshox vivid R2C.

Let me know what you guys have done please

Thanks all,
John

The spring weigh depends on suspension design, more than riding weight. I mean, for an equal riding weight, various suspension designs will require very different shock calibration. If shock were all placed staight up without any linkage like they were 70 yrs ago, it would be easy to calibrate a suspension, but the riding quality would suffer greatly in comparison with modern standards.

Most recent FS bikes do require the rear spring load about twice the total riding weight, but each has its own tuning spec descibed in the user manual. There are many exceptions, with bikes that are designed to tune with much lower or higher ratio. This is influenced by many factors: Pivot height and placement, frame geometry, linkage action and length, shock angle, swingarm length...

Favorite shocks are very personnal, and will vary with different bikes. I like the Manitu Titanium shocks on some bikes, while I prefer a Cane Creek or a Rock Shox on some other. This is about suspension design, that may be more or less progressive, and built with different ratios. It is also about the rider's prefered riding style and posture, along with his own geometry settings.

John,
you can use one of these calculators to estimate the required spring rate:

Why use a DNM spring on a Rockshox shock?
Isn't it better to get a Rockshox spring that will fit for sure?

Avner.
