Looking to upgrade my stock front fork. Nothing too esoteric or expensive. $100-200 range. Is this possible?

Can you suggest something that will handle rocky trails nicely? Ebay seems to have lots of guys selling forks after their own upgrade. I don't want to risk a blown fork, but maybe I can get a deal on a late model one...

Thanks,

NGK

I've been spec'ing parts for a basic mountain tandem and there is one single-crown fork recommened; the Marzocchi Bomber. The other recommended forks are dual crown downhill type which cost $$$ so I would go with the Bomber. I have one, a very tough fork and should fit your needs.

marz bomber great
fox vanilla great

both can be had used for 2-300........look for hydraulic damping circuts.....r/c--- rebound and compression damping, this is what you want!!!!

its sometimes hard to tell whats junk or not.......look it up on mtbr.com forums . eg marz exr comp <complete crap........elastomer damping sux

get an 2001 bomber z1 for 125$ on pinkbike.com has r/c damping, 20mm axle <my first fork loved it

these are both good for trails......

Pinkbike is the place to go. $1-200 won't buy anything new, but a good takeoff or better yet, a good aftermarket can be found for that.

Marzocchi bomber and Fox vanilla both came in the standard 10mm quick release style dropout as an option. they are harder to find as the hardcore crowd that hangs out on Pinkbike thinks they are wimpy, but they also sell for less when you do find them.

Which Model Year do you have if you don't mind -for the Matrix?

Yes, they are very nice looking. I don't like the newer ones though. I like the older folding style, they fold much quicker.

Too bad the Matrix is discontinued. Jack as well is discontinued.

I Have the new 2009 model. the folding is a bit tighter and the triangle has "room" ....just enough for the ping 36/15Ah Battery.
