Found a Hub Motor in my Washer!

My two year old front loading LG washer started leaking so I decided to open it up and have a look. What do I find but a direct drive hub motor, possibly a Magic Pie. :wink: I counted 38 poles and it's big! More than 12" across. The washer needs a new front drum/door seal which I should be getting in the mail tomorrow. When I open it back up again I'll measure the motor diameter (I'm curious myself) and I might take the fan off for a better look (by removing the three screws). I'm not sure where the maganets are, maybe some skinny ones inside the fan wheel.

It's interesting that the motor has a 10 year warranty. I guess the simplicity of a direct drive hub motor has it's advantages.

I think you'll find it's a knock off of fisher & paykel direct drive washing machine motor discussed here...

I seem to recall some guy pulling them off the junk pile and converting them into peddle generators and such...

They make adequate wind-generators, not a huge amount of watts, but they do work.
