Cheap cameras have been around for CC/closed circuit. When someone comes to the door, you can change the channel on your TV to see who it is, you can watch your baby in its crib while you're in another room, you can even set-up a hidden "nanny cam" to spy on how you kid is being cared for, or prove if your college room-mate is going through your stuff.
Whats different about this is that even the most basic smart-phone has a pretty good camera, and if you already have an extra one because you just bought a new Android-phone, this is a lot cheaper. I'm not experienced with this stuff, but it looked very interesting...
