Hmm. Slick cast aluminum alloy throughout, integrated transmission, a true bolt-on kit, appears to be a fairly sophisticated freewheel integrated into the crank, aerodynamic with low CG.. must be a link toward the future of this hobby.. no? NO. It's from 19 ****ing 37!

God is this depressing.

I like the supercharger!

Check out the history of Sturmey Archer at
the Sturmey Archer website.

Alot of cool motorized bicycle and motorcycle history.
Planetary gear info too...

I guess this is why I'm lamenting the tilt toward reproductions of these on the petrol powered bicycle boards, and fairly scant attention paid to putting together a truly efficient literal "moped" with modern motors and geartrains. Everything is right at my fingertips except for double freewheel crankset (which I can make myself eventually) and a small, simple, yet robust hand operated clutch to fully isolate the motor transmission from the pedals. The fact that I cannot find the latter, after two days of google searching and phone calls to a couple of manufacturers truly blows my mind.
