Anyone using 6 piston 170mm gatorbrakes ?

I wanted to know if they are better or worse comparing to avid elixir, shimano, etc.
Im having overheating issues with an avid elixir r. Pads are not lasting...

Im using the 6 piston 203mm Gatorbrakes and Im not impressed with them at all! The brakes drag after use so you have to push the levers forward after braking which gets bloody annoying. I asked Gatorbrakes about this and their reply was that this is a design flaw lol. The pads last between 2 weeks and a month per set. They stop absolutely amazing but there is some big drawbacks. I am glad I only paid 100 bucks for both sets with rotors!

I have a 6 pot Gatorbrake on the front, along with a 203mm rotor. The braking force is very good, and its extremely easy to lock the tire up with minimal effort, but still reasonably controllable. I have never used any other high quality hydro brakes, so I cant really compare directly. For high speed braking, you don't need to squeeze extremely hard to slide the front tire, even at 40+...

However, the pads do rub from time to time, over hard bumps or turns. It stops by itself after a few seconds, its not that big of a deal to me. I only use friction brakes for emergency stops or to stop completely after regen stops working at low speed, the pads look like they will last several years. I've done several stops from 40 in a row, just to test it out, and it handles it fine. The rotor discolors, but the pads take it.

I guess the Gatorbrakes work fine for someone who doesnt really use their brakes much but if you have no regen and live on a steep hill you will hate how often you go through pads. I admit that my bike is not the lightest bike, my battery alone is around 40lbs. I weigh 225 lbs which doesnt help either. When I first built my bike I rode it with only the back brake hooked up and I completely heat faded the brake going down my hill. I suppose that I would be going through pads regularly no matter which brand of brake I use. The only thing that I really dislike is how the brakes stick on and drag until you push the levers forward. I have gotten to the point where I am so used to it I just hold the lever between 2 fingers and I instinctively push the levers forward after braking. If they could solve the dragging issue then they would be the best brakes out there.

I am trying to find some aswell. I just tried truckerco and they have no listing for Gatorbrake. Every place I try has stopped carrying Gatorbrake. This is the only set of pads I could find and they are in Taiwan lol. I guess I will buy like 10 sets since they are probably going to be impossible to find soon. http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=gatorbrake+6+piston+pads&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Ask then on ebay, I really think they have it. And even if they dont, if 3-4 people ask for, they are probably gonna make it.

:)

Pads are hard to come by...

However, these are the same, if you wanted to try something different.
