Geared hubs

I'm really confused on all the different names for these geared hubs bafang golden motors puma . There so many out there with different names. Who makes what hub and what are the names they call it. I'm working on a new project a recumbent trike. I think I'm gonna go with a geared hub puma maybe, not sure yet. i have a geared hub now and i like doesn't have any drag on when it not operating. i just use it for hills and when i want to recuperate abit. It is lacking power. Ive never driven a direct drive hub. I was kind of worried that there is allot of drag when not using motor . i like to pedal and use the motor when i get tired . i like cruising around to at about 20/ 25. My hub motor does only 17 now. Can anyone tell me who makes this motor is this a bafang. can you clue me in on the other geared hubs. any info would be appreciated

I looked at that topic but it talks mostly about bafang motors and doesn't say much more about other motors i'm interested in puma, what other names do they call that

Its also called the MAC motor, Cell Man sells them and they are awesome for their size/weight!

I have a bafang on an mtb...36v,12amp battery...about 28kmh on the flat .. bafan g wieghs about 7lbs and the mac about 10lbs...also have puma[mac] on a tadpole..36v,20amp a123 battery by cellman...40kph..both arec 26"wheels....i think they are the same motor...,all geared motors freewheel...i too like to pedal and only use power on the hills or when i get tired[am 85]...get the mac [high speed winding]froim cellman with the new gears..my original white nylons did not last more than 200k ... a bit noisy at first but get quiet after about 200k

I'm in the process in building a tadpole warrior trike all the parts made just need to weld them together. I was thinking of putting a puma engine on the rear. How noisy are they . the geared hub I have on my bike now says it has copper gears and its pretty quite. I'm just not sure which motor to get. can you post pic's of your tadpole Thanks

I'm still confused what is the difference between a bafang mac or the puma motor. can some one post pic's and spec's on each. is mac and puma the same or is bafang and mac and golden motor same

bafang: producer of many small hub motors, they do sell a line of larger hub motors, but those don't seem to be commonly used.

MAC / BMC: Larger geared hubs, almost identical in design, with many interchangeable parts. Very popular here.

Puma: just another name for a MAC or BMC motor.

Copper gears? First upgrade your battery and controller to 48v 30a.

1400w should get you moving 25mph easy. If you burn the motor out, replace it with what you can afford.
