Hi, there is a young man on you tube that posted his electric bike conversion of a Genesis v2100 full suspension mountain bike. I too would like to do the same and get rid of my hard riding hardtail Diamondback bike. It all seemed great since the bike itself sells for around $159 at walmart. The bike had very good reviews to my suprise. After contacting him it turns out that the dropouts are alloy and not steel (front hub conversion). Its my understanding that you must use steel dropouts on front hub motors. Am I wrong? He seems to think it handles the motor easily? If you want to see the you tube piece just search Genesis V1200 electric bike conversion. Would be interested to hear from you guys on this.

The stock fork lowers on any Mongoose v2100 I've seen are in fact steel.
Cant recall the manufacture (suntour?) if they say "Element-2" on them I will wager they are steel
A simple magnet test in the store will answer conclusivly. The first tell is the dropouts are welded to the sliders.
They are disc brake only, so a hub with that option is required.

I bought a Mongoose "Hatchet" that has the same fork in 29er size.

That said:
They are simple spring boingy boingy units that are prone to be sloppy & prolly worse than a ridged fork all things considered. There is no dampening in the action. The rear shock either. I am a fan of the bike though, & have ridden a really good build with that as the base....the only parts left from the base bike was the frame diamond, rear struts & pivot linkage & maybe the seat post & seat.
The rest was all replaced with much better componetry.
If your building a stock powered bike to run at 20mph, they may be fine. If your pushing moped speeds the fork is janky on its best day.
Here is a proper reveiw of big box store bike shaped objects.

I have a Genesis donor bike. The only thing stock left on it is the triangle frame and upper swing arm. If you're going to use a front hub you will need to replace the front fork. The stock front fork is crap.
