Some feedback from an owner.
I bought a Tonaro Bighit a little over a year ago after a fair bit of research. All in all, I've been pretty happy with the bike. Its main downside is its weight, but I wanted a crank drive, and there weren't (and still aren't) many options in Australia - certainly not for under $2000. It also came with a very uncomfortable saddle I promptly replaced. That aside, it's been great.
As far as I can tell, in Australia Tonaro bikes have been distributed under several marketing guises including Gette, Aseako, Wolf and more recently Zoco. Overseas incarnations include R Martin and iGo. I think in the UK they might even be sold as the Tonaro.
A member of my family pointed me to the Aseako website, but from memory I was put off by paying my money to a account that had something to do with coffee machines. The website for the coffee machines was very similar to the Aseako bikes website (http://www.aseakoelectricbike.com.au). So too is the website for Aseako treadmills (http://www.aseakotreadmill.com.au) and, for that matter, Zoco (http://zocoelectricbike.com.au). Aseako and Zoco are the the same company, obviously.
Why the same importer markets the Tonaro as Aseako and Zoco I cannot answer. The only difference on cited specs is the Aseako has caliper brakes and the Zoco has disc brakes and hub gearing. I don't know enough but hub gearing to comment but it might be worth it to avoid grinding through gear changes.
I took a bit of punt and bought mine through Wolf Ebikes (which I think no longer exists), mainly because they didn't seem to be making such an effort to pass of a Chinese-made bicycle as European, and the version of the Bighit they were selling was about $500 cheaper than the Gette brand. The Gette version did have a throttle whereas mine does not. A throttle would be nice, but after a year I can't say it would have been worth the extra dosh.
If I was to choose a bike now I'd still go with a Tonaro - at least until I can buy a Kalkhoff electric bike in Oz.
