Seems silly to use solar or whatever to make electricity to light a lamp to grow food.
Plants were designed to work with direct sunshine.

For artificial light, nothing beats the arc lamps bulk output for efficiency's sake, if you look at it from an engineers perspective. But for energy per sq meter, it's hard to compete with that nearby nuke we call the sun.
For powering a house, however, solar works. Today my system made 23 Killowatt Hrs of electricity.
