I love my new ride! It is a giant warp DS2 full suspension. What a plush ride. I now know the definition of plush! :D I cannot ride my other bikes! Setup is crystalyte 406 rear hub 36v, duct tape battery 36v 15ah, & watts up for specs. The bike feels light as well for pedaling. I went 30kms the other day and used under 4ahs!IMG_1093.jpg

Sorry about the crappy picture, I was too anxious to take it for a burn!

Johnbear.....

How the heck do you get away without fenders living in Vancouver?... Hell I'm spittin distance from you on Whidbey Island and every bicycle I own has full fenders...

Love the bike... Nice a clean.......

Looks like a bike

good job

What year? How much?

I have fenders on the bike as of yesterday! I paid just under 400 used from sports junkies here in Vancouver. I think it is a 2005. I will be putting disc brakes on the front when they arrive in the mail.

What do you think makes it more plush compared to your other bikes? Is it just the addition of the rear shock? Better front shock then the others, or both? I assume the frame is aluminium.

The air adjustable 100mm rock shox front shock is awesome and the rear shock has 5 inches of travel! I highly recommend dual suspension!

Going from a non-suspension.. to front-suspension - to full-suspension to Quality Full-suspension is a step forward at evrey level...

My norco makes all my other rides pale in comparison..

The low cost suspension bikes form canadian tire or wally world are ok as bicycles, but add motor and batteries, the weight makes the suspension act like a pogo-stick.

Hi Johnbear,

love the bike!!!
very nice and stealth :) good job!

Cheers,

D

Thank you, you have an awesome bike. :D I have read your build thread, great work. I love your battery mounts. I bet the DC1 handles really nice! Back when I had lead acid batteries I thought there would be no way to use a dual suspension (maybe Ypedal could make it work - he is pretty gifted at engineering such things) but now with the lifepo4 on a strong steel seat post rack it all works great!

More pics please :)

How does it handle with the batteries on the rear rack, and a rear motor? Is it tail heavy and has a tendency to pull a wheelie? Or is it ok? I'm thinking about a rear motor for mine, but don't want to wreck the handling.

I used to have a similar front mudguard, and found it useless - the water will shoot out the front and them come back and hit you in the face....

I ended up getting one which mounts just above the wheel, about 10mm clear. It works much better.

And yep, you really, really need a front disc brake.

I like your bike :)

Nice clean setup, and most importantly, it looks great. 8)

One down one to go. I installed the front avid bb5 disk today along with some manitou Black front suspension. I love disk brakes and good suspension! :D The Rock Shox were quite good but these are 120mm travel. I did miss the fender - it does work! I took the bike out just a bit ago with out the fender and got covered in mud. The other day I had the bike out and most of the mud stayed off of me.

I prefer the motor on back. The battery is ok there as well, I don't even know they are there unless I physically lift the bike.

I will have the back disc brake on soon. :D IMG_1329.jpgIMG_1328.jpg

Looking GOOD!!

They are actually the same forks I took off my bike to fit the front motor with reinforced Bomber forks. And same brakes.

After I see how my brother's bike goes with a rear motor, I may swap mine (issues with disc and 9 speed cluster - that why I went front motor).

Quick update on the warp. I was ambitious yesterday so I decided to fit the rear disk brake. First attempt the screw on disk brake was too close to the motor. I then put in what I thought were 2 freewheel spacers (they were actually shimano bottom bracket spacers) too space it out a bit and it fits perfectly. I installed the avid bb5's on the mount and I am now going to get a length of brake cable from my LBS. :Ddb1.jpg

That's looking really good John.

Have you got a torque arm on the motor (or 2)?

And what's that strut coming down from the rack towards the suspension triangle? You're running cables on it, but I don't think it's stock?

Disc brakes will make an amazing difference. Fiddly to adjust though, at least the Avid mechanicals. And I had to remove the inner adjuster on the brake with my motor...a piece of blu-tac holds it from moving

`That is a light weight fender by the back triangle. Thanks for the tip on the avids. I find there is more adjustment than on the hydraulic shimano xtrs. After fitting both I would go with Avid! I got the brake cable today, have to set it up.

I don't have torque arms. I am only running a 20 amp controller at 36v. I hope it does not need one

You may have 50Nm of torque, reacted by a little bit of aluminium design to bear NO torque at all.

You need a torque arm. It is only a matter of time before it fails as it is now....

I have my disc brakes adjusted so they *just* rub. It does't seem to affect speed, and they are really grippy - one finger is enough. I also found cheap pads DO NOT WORK at all.

Seriously ... if you do nothing else, shove a pair of 10mm open-end box wrenches in each axle end, between the drop-out and the first washer, and cable tie the box ends down.

Without support, you are going to spin those alum drop-outs and then you are screwed.

Alum dropout meets hub motor ....

Mind you, I was very, very lucky. Even though I fried a 4110 controller, and cut phase wires, and blew hall sensors, the axle decided to spin when I was only at 10mph on a deserted sidewalk. Imagine if I was doing >30...
