GoldenMotor Magic Pie.

Keep in mind I don't know if it's $200 for shipping from GM, just that that's how much it would've been for various batteries from other suppliers (which pretty much kills any possibility of a deal for me, even if I weren't in the situation I'm in).

Presently GM charges $115 shipping on one of their complete kits. The store isn't set up yet to give a discount for multiple items so ordering two kits doubles the shipping.

Hey Cass. You'll be able to purchase the magic pie from my store: http://www.westedgeebikes.com when they are available. Anyone in the US will be able to get the kit for just local shipping costs (usually around $35). The pie is supposed to hit our warehouse about mid November.

Cheers!

Chris

I'm in the US too. Are you sure about that shipping price?--------------------------------------------------------------------------->

Dealers get them for a lower price. However they will be sold at 290USD by all dealers until we have a promotion sale. (such as christmas) and we'll put together a complete package (with the new sliding rack) for a new price. Since magic pie's battry connector is only compatible with our batteries, we'll have to set a new bargain price so that the complete value meal is more worthy of buying rather than a la carte components. Heck i've even thought of selling the pie kit at 699USD, (with battery) and no one will be able to buy it a la carte. This solves all the problems for the engineer who's replyin all those e-mails about "will my 48v PING be compatible with your 48V1000W???".

It might be a good idea to have the day-one version available as an a-la-carte entree, through the dealers... with no battery & no warranty.

Most of the day-one buyers are going to own batteries already and want to test and report (not buy a whole system). Buyers simply looking for a bargain are going to want a warranty and will wait until the reports are in anyway.

The direct shipping cost could be a dealbreaker for many potential testers. Offering through the dealers as above, could establish a relationship between dealers and builders; the dealers will know who got the non-warranty motors and can support them at their discretion.

The day-one testers will be confident that good product will be supplied (despite no warranty), since GM and the dealers are banking on positive feedback.

Yes. Day one is actually more expensive. For example, 160 + 200 shipping is 360. Getting them through dealers would be 290 + 50 shipping, which is 20 dollars cheaper. However after the first day, the price goes up to 290 + 200 from us, that's 490 for a kit with no batteries. Hence after the first day and everything seems to be fine, we would rocket the prices on the website so that customers would want to get them through dealers, which benefits the dealer, customer and us due to available local aftersales services. However we would really need professionals to buy and give feedback to us on the first day, because that would decide whether this product is going to overtake our prokit 901, and if it does, we'll discontinue 901.

How about for that one day allow us to combine shipping cost for a couple of motors. That way I can share the shipping cost with a friend. Those of use who have multiple ebikes are interested but only if the price is reasonable. I like the product but can focus on an RC setup just as easily.

Here's a thought: let the dealers sell the pie a-la-carte (no factory warranty) for $160... one pie per customer, one day only, x pies per dealer.

Early-birds get the worm
Dealers get x new customers/testers
No hoarder/resellers (1 pie per cust.)
GM gets big buzz and lots of testers.

It's much like the $50 airfaires... only two seats are $50, but big buzz.

Sure, the dealers aren't making bank on the day-one sales; but if the pie is sweet, word will travel fast.

The shipping cost isn't $200 from GM, that was a figure that amberwolf posted earlier for batteries and other items he'd had shipped. GM charges $115 shipping for a kit presently and it DOES work out cheaper to buy multiple kits, it's just an error in the scripting on the GM website, it hasn't been set up properly so if you order 2 it just doubles the price. Yao Yuan on the GM forums verified this and is working on fixing and updating the site in the next few days for the MP release.

In the mean time I have emailed the GM sales dept to get an accurate shipping cost for different numbers of kits. I'll post their reply when I receive it for those who are looking to purchase a few.

The shipping price per kit should come in at under $100. There's a number of ebay resellers shipping individual kits from china for under $100, some even around $80.

Sorry Hyena but no. The shipping costs are higher this time, but not as high as 200, that was a random figure i used to illustrate what we intend to do. The magic pie kit (including battery) is 17KG in total, this motor is heavier. without batteries it's 13KG max net. And we use air shipping through EMS so that it can achieve the 5-10 business days. However some customers prefer sea freight, but we forgot to change the 5-10 days to nearly a month in the automated e-mail. If you guys want to order in bulk together, be my guest, just that the ship will be very slow. For those of you who can afford the air shipping, you'll get it real fast. In the GM forums, there's a section for people to organise group buys through container shipping and that's 10USD shipping fee. The point of the first day, as i have already stated out is for professional users like you people to be able to test it out and help us confirm our own results. If you people have tested it and it works as great as it works for us, then the dealers will come in and play their role to bring non-prosumers affordable delicious magicpies. Since our dealers, such as Chris, are relatively new to our company, we would need our dealers to be confident in our/their product first, before we rocket our prices so that we won't be competition to our dealers. If you would like a lower shipping rate, that might take months, please just e-mail zhourenli@goldenmotor.com and tell him that "i want snail mail". anyway, if you guys haven't seen this, here it is:

http://www.goldenmotor.com/magicpie/features_magicpie.html
*Check out the comparison simpler view, inspired by WoW... lol

And for those of you who are still not keen on testing this out, then you may have to wait another month before the dealers order from us, and another half a month for them to get it.

Chris,
I hope you can understand that this is not a big market on this forum, but the people on this forum are professionals and they can help us improve our products. Hence please do not view this as competition to dealers, please await my e-mail about new dealer surprises and new rates for this new product. We love you.

Dealers,
If you are on this forum, read this well, if you think that the Giant UCAN frame is attractive and may sell well, please put together your thoughts and e-mail my manager, he is in doubt whether to bulk manufacture that type of bike frame. (yaoyuan@goldenmotor.com - most of you should know him)

Yours,
GoldenMotor

...This motor is heavier. without batteries it's 13KG max net

You sure about that ?? That's more than a crystalyte X5 which I very much doubt.
According to the link you just posted the MP weighs 6.2kg vs 5kg for the old motor. The extra kilo is fair enough consideringthe new motor has a larger overall diametre, the added weight of of the controller + a few extra magnets. How does the weight get to more than double that though ? A plastic throttle and a few brake levers and buttons are only going to be another 1kg or so.

I would think considering the MP has no controller the overall shipping weight would be 1kg heavier at the most.

Yes, however after packaging... it's that weight. Also 13KG is the Max Nett, as in approximation, this is because the rims, spokes, small stuff added together, together with the sprocket weighs more than just 6.2kg. Anyway have you received the tracking number?

SO after all is figured in, we get to test your product for you, but we get to pay more than we would from a USA dealer after the product is released?

Wrong. I was wondering the same thing as well but after I asked my colleague, he said that those who purchased on the first day can opt for sea shipping, there will be shipping options available. In both ways, it is much cheaper than getting it from a dealer, however this is only for the first day and is limited to two hundred sets. Pre-ordering is not exactly available for end-users, just first come first serve. The only people who could and have pre-ordered were old GM clients and business partners, or those who personally know my manager, dealers are currently waiting for the results of the first day sales and the reviews.

If you still don't get the picture, here's the deal in simpler terms:
160USD + seashipping fee <<< 290USD
It is only abit more expensive (probably 20USD) than getting it from a dealer if you airship it.
However if you airship it, you get the pie one or two months earlier, how about that?
Some dealers may not order magic pie due to the price, and when it's that time you realise that your local dealer doesn't have it, and you come to the website and pay a big fat 290USD (without shipping) for the same thing that was 160 on the first day. Or maybe you won't even want to buy it then. Either way, sales managers don't make stupid mistakes... lol. Hope this clears the mist about the cost.

I'm in charge of spreading this knowledge to this forum, however this is not the only place that is aware of MP. Group buys, bulk orders from other professionals also exist, the website caters to the forum members who will eventually give feedback about the product and will automatically receive a discount on their next buy, however i'm not sure about how much discount.
Oh well it is a major event for us and our distributors will be able to estimate how much pies they need according to the feedback and sales figures on the first day.

Good luck, as far as i heard, there's only 50 pies left, most of the pies were pre-ordered by business partners and professional testers. My boss says that he'll order another 100 for the 20th october buyers, however they'll have to wait till they are spoked. The pies are selling out fast, get 'em while they're hot! In my own opinion, it's worth it, because you'll never get such an item at 160USD. Try asking BionX for that price lol.

Good fortune on your major event. I hope you prosper.
If we want to be your early testers, we have to pay more than waiting for dealer, (and support) next month.
I agree surface shipping is a bargain, but that is not early testing.
Plus, You may have Christmas sale that is a better deal.

Hi,

www.goldenmotor.com/SMF

For those who think the shipping costs are too high, please arrange group buys in the following sections.

Looking at your ever expanding lines, I'm starting to feel lust...magic pie...48v lipo 12ah, slide on rack, and that awsomely cool 70v. Solar Charger!

My brother's the energy minister here, and is really pushing our province's electric advantage. If I could show him that full set up, he would just love it.

Bob

Hi GoldenMotor,

I wanted to know how quiet this motor is. Does it make any noise at all? Or, is it fairly quiet at startup and then gets quieter at higher speeds?

Thanks,
Ambrose

Hi GM,
what is the no-load max rpm for the Magic π on a 48 volt battery. I mainly want to know how it compares to your HBS-48 motor. Are they all wound the same, or differently as the HBS-48 comes in hi rpm and hi torque versions.
