Anyone know the 'proper nomenclature' for the 6 pin connectors used for the hall sensor wires.
I keep cutting these off and soldering the wires together because I do not have the proper replacement parts.

I have looked in the wiki but the designation there is "2.8 mm connector".
I tried to run down the proper part number under Amp and Molex to no avail.
I have found them on Amazon for $17 (seventeen) dollars a set (which seems very expensive). http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00I81JXL0
I have found something 'similar' on Ebay, Banggood and Aliexpress.

... and while I am asking: what is the sixth white wire from the motor for?

The 6th wire on my Halls connector is the white one which usually goes to the wheel speed sensor. There is also a 9 pin connector that looks similar that also has the phase wires in it. I think Ebikekit has them but not cheap.

Yeah, it's a "crap" connector.
I don't think they have a proper name, many refer to them as "scooter" connectors. If you have a mind to actually replace them with the same, they can be had at the Chinese scooter parts sites, like;

Now you are talking, you only need to dis-connect at the motor anyhow.
If you feel the need to have a connector for the Halls @ the controller. I would recommend JST's.

Used to extend the balance leads on Lipo, I cut one extension and solder the two halves on.
Also avail. at all the Hobby stores like Hobby Partz,

I was thinking that if I knew the proper nomenclature I could find them via Mouser or Newark.

I think that I have found them on Aliexpress. I was getting some hits before but in German. This page is in English:

10 sets for $5 with delivery time less than 39 days.
Luckily I am not in a hurry. I just want to get some so next time I do not need to solder the wires together to shorten the cable.

Also found the connectors pins by themselves ... which is really all I should need.

I want that connector at the controller so that I can have a spare controller prewired and ready to go.

I am going to use this on the motor power wires:

Be warned that these won't fit through a traditional axle nut (if your motor cable comes out the end of the axle).
Thanks for the heads up.
The motor is a Bafang SXWU so the cable exits the face of the hub. This is for the end at the controler. The other end has the stock 9 pen barrel connector. (see the link in my signature)
