That shit is crazy, even in Canada people are falling through the cracks where they cant get their $2k/m for 4 months, or $1000 cerb checks. No wonder people are robbing empty commercial and industrial buildings.

Likely the guy at the taqueria was permanently underemployed, so the unemployment insurance paid by the employer is less, among with other benefits to the employer.

Could be worse, paid in cash, using the employer cashes his check and keeps a third plan. Or maybe he is on that. Paying to use a SS number the employer supplies. Or he works 40 hours, but gets paid for 30, which is quite common. It goes like this, show up, spend an hour prepping, but get paid when the door opens. Same after closing. This is even more common.

Yeah, employers can easily take advantage of their employee's, especially so when they are illegal, but also underemployed/unskilled workers. I remember when I did a little bit of temp day laborer way back when, the temp agency could cash your check for you. Lets say the day labor came to $86.95, they would take $5 + the $1.95 and you'd get $80. If it was $89.95 it would be $5 + $4.95 and you'd be left with $80. The payday loan places arent any better neither.

New unempolyment claims numbers are down from last week, 5.2m, the 6.9m and 6.6m claims two weeks previous

Still high though, total unemployment will soon pass 30m, over 20% of those working.

Add the gig workers, casual cash grey markets who don't bother filing, could be half soon easy.

Class war's been running forever, time for the victims to start gaining a little ground back.

Still a big fan of universal basic income...

And as a European I am always so surprised what a mess the USA is when it comes down to it. Many people no health insurance, panicking about the ambulance cost while theyre lying next to their bike with a broken leg, stuff like that youd expect in a 3rd world country, not the US. Always afraid to loose their jobs, willing to accept anything the boss says just to keep the job. The US is probably great when you have money, otherwise not so much...

Now Switzerland on the other hand ... :D

Yes the **only** advantage for an immigrant to choose USA over the more developed countries in EU / UK / Anzac even Canada

is if you really think you have a solid business idea and plan + ability to execute it + want to dedicate your every waking moment to working to make it succeed, you dream of becoming rich.

Of course the odds are slim you will actually get there, but yes a bit less red tape paperwork, ability to not deal with unions, endanger/exploit your workforce, pollute the environment, maybe become politically influential develop a crony network

may help improve your odds of hitting the jackpot.

But for someone who wants a nice ordinary life, decent wage, safe neighborhoods, security, benefits, holidays health care good education, to have time to raise a family

USA really not so great, one big disaster and you could easily become homeless.

One big disaster you say, no not really. Any small or medium disaster and you become broke. Medical coverage is expensive in the USA, so one missed step and your big time in debt due to the high cost of medical care. Then there is the fire arms epidemic in the USA, so if the Hospitals dont get cha, the gunman will because maybe they'll rob your store or rob your house. If you have no or little money then your living in poorer neighborhoods with higher crime rates.

USA population is 340M while Canada is 34M equal to California's 38M.

During the Pandemic, the government came out today with rent relief for biz. Gov't pays 50%, biz pay $25%. Is Mr Chump doing that in the USA? Then what about the $2k/m for 4 months for eligible workers, Chumps done something but I haven't heard the dollar amounts.

2k/month but you need to save about $500/month to pay back come tax time. so 8grand over 4 months but 2 grand has to be paid back in income tax.
then the turd offers 9 billion for students? 1250/month. theres 350,000 post secondary students. do the math, its $25,714/student. does that mean Trudeau is planning to have the schools closed for 20 months? a lot of our post secondary students aren't from Canada.why are we paying for foreign students that probably have wealthy parents. what the heck is going on with all this money? wheres it going. the shutdown needs to end here in most of Canada.

then if an employer needs a student worker for summer, the govt will pay their wages. more B.S. absolute insanity. some business that's need an employee shouldn't be getting free labour paid by the tax payer. that's like laundering money.

so this sounds political but this is the fall out we Canadians are going to have pay for.

Every nation, every state, every province, every territory will be paying for it for a very long time, its a matter of how long and how much higher are the taxes going to be. I'd sure hate to see any PST added to Alberta's only 5% GST, but that's the rumor. Used cars and homes arent consumer taxed, but new homes and new vehicles are. That added PST % whatever # it is, will add up. Higher land taxes would undoubtedly be up for grabs, higher home land tax, probably more tax on cigs, booze, gas and who knows what else.

Municipalities are not suppose to run a deficit, but the federal government has removed that legality. Now they are grabbing whatever cash from wherever they can.......... and from where I wonder? Hopefully not China, or UAE, or Russia.

In the end, there is only one way to pay for this disaster. Well, there is another way,, Like the USSR got under the NEP. How many million starved then?

I'd far rather be taxed, than pay that kind of price, that comes when enough people start to starve.

Got more than the equiv of $1500 CAN a week (every week) in unemployment benefits when I was unemployed here during 11 months in '18....

Obviously this "once in a lifetime" event will be difficult to recover from, and there are individuals who were or will have difficulty coping, but me, my family and the hundreds of people we know, who have "normal" jobs or maybe were fortunate because they made good investments, are doing well. Doubt that would be the case in any other country, but I won't argue. I'm delighted to be here.

your seeing outbreaks in meat processing plants, getting shutdown, the food supply is kind of important and now there is a shortage of co2 for water treatment plants and manufacturers. theres no demand for ethanol right now, I guess co2 is a by product of making ethanol and they just closed 50 plants? I don't know if this is a fake news story

Pawn shops and payday loan companies are doing well, atleast "will" do well when pawnshops open. Payday loans is an essential service, like banking.

Please follow Denmarks immigration policy.

Denmark is one of six Schengen-area countries that earlier this year undertook efforts to tighten up their border controls, against the advice of the European Union’s commissioner for migrants. Denmark is at the moment very busy deporting a number of rejected asylum-seekers and other “unwanted” would-be immigrants.

“They are unwanted in Denmark, and they will feel that,” wrote Denmark’s immigrant minister, Inger Støjberg.

Sounds like Denmark might want to consider the possible benefits of a stupid f**king wall, literal or virtual.

How do you say “bigly” in Danish? Or maybe “Make Danes Great Again”?

Denmark's extreme immigration policies include separating immigrant toddlers from their parents every week to teach them 'Danish values'

Eh, every brewery in the US makes tons of pure CO2 every week. It's all there, they just have to change how they collect it.

Sounds like the US, without the freezing cold cages for toddlers.

Newcomers have to learn the language, progress in speach/reading/writing in the native language, learn history of the country, have a wanted skillset the country needs. When it comes to Canada/USA, the citizens dont want to pick fruit, flip burgers, mop floors, drive taxi's, work in a meat packing plant. They want unionized jobs on the assembly line at GM and Ford, or to be an Engineer, Lawyer, Doctor. The problem we are having is the agenda towed by parents and post secondary institutions that you have to work in an office and not get your fingers dirty working as an Electrician, Plumber, Mechanic, Roofer/Sider, Millwright, Carpenter. All very good careers to get into, that are well paid. Can't have no uncontrolled entry of people into a nation, those people are criminals and should be charged of such a criminal offense upon stepping foot. Mr. TurdOH just wants the votes.
