After a sudden flat battery (Headway 40152S cells) I checked the connections etc. but didn't find any problems so I rebuilt the packs. Now a month later it just struck me the connections were cross-head screws and allen hex heads would be much better. I've tried a search for thread info but came up blank (all the spec sheets I've found miss out this bit of data) so can anyone confirm the thread size used to save me stripping a pack again. From memory I think possibly standard M6 - that's a 1 mm pitch - maybe 7 or 8 mm long?
(I'll keep looking- you normally find this kind of stuff shortly after posting............)

In case anyone else needs the info- on klangfuzzis.de
so it's M6 , 6mm long and 4Nm torque according to knoxville on a German car audio site. Veilen danke, knoxville.

Edit:
And another:
***INSTALLATION OF SCREW ENDS: Tighten to 3Nm (26 inch lbs.) and do not exceed 4Nm (35 inch lbs.)***

***DO NOT EXCEED MORE THAN 6mm OF THREAD INTO CELL***

Here in the U.S.
We can take our Bolt, Screw, and go to the local hardware store, where they have a board with bolts/ screws
and nuts glued onto it, so that you can try out to see exactly which one you have . you keep trying the one you have in the different nuts, until you find the one with a snug , but not too tight fit.
Don't your hardware stores have that in the U.K. ?

Well yes, but that means stripping the pack so I could just measure the thread so no real point......

Hi
I recently built a headway pack
with second hand cell which came with
no fixings, I used these from toolstation
Part no 47370

Stainless Steel Socket Button Screws M6 x 12mm

50 Pack

Hope this helps

It's extremely easy to spin the cell endcaps by applying too much torque.

There is no reason to use a fastener designed for high torque when even moderate torque will damage the cell. Phillips screws are notorious for throwing the driver under much torque - which is a Good Thing with these cells.

The whole business of torquing the screws, etc to get tight connections without spinning the endcaps was annoying until I tried using a compact Milwaukee 2410-22 M12 drill/driver (non-impact) with a #3 Phillips bit and the clutch set to #1. A pack goes together super quick and then I re-torque the finished assembly on a #2 clutch setting. Perfect.

I have built quite a few packs this way and have never spun an endcap or had a screw come loose (8000+ road miles).

IMHO spending money on replacement screws that can more easily cause damage is a very distant second to spending the money on a moderately priced reconditioned tool that gives me fast/easy/safe pack builds. Just sayin'....

I haven't found out exactly which bit profile the screws use- all the drivers I've tried slip making it difficult to get a true torque reading. I've tried Philips, pozi in various sizes.
