Help finding a Zooz axle or motor?

First post, was directed here after asking about a problem with my kid’s Zooz bike. Rear axle broke so I’ve taken it apart and am trying to locate either an axle or the stator/axle unit or just the whole motor.

Zooz offered to sell a new motor plus controller but at almost $600, it’s steep. Especially when I’m looking at the broken axle on my work bench! Anyone have any ideas?

The motor number is: 52v750w221100081.
Thanks!IMG_1089.jpegIMG_1082.jpeg

You didn't mention which model of bike you have, but since most of their bikes are geared, and yours is direct drive, I'm guessing it's an Ultra or one of it's variants.
You could buy a direct drive motor laced in a 24" rim for pretty cheap ($150, ebay, Amazon, etc.), but finding one with an L10 connector may be harder to find. Do you have a multimeter and soldering skills?
Motor sold by Grin come with the L10, but the cost is high, as is the quality.
You should think about your speed and torque requirements before buying a replacement motor so it comes with the motor windings necessary to meet your requirements.
Can you confirm that your dropout spacing is ~135mm?

Thank you so much for getting back to me! Yes it seems to be an original Urban.

It seems that finding a replacement axle is likely not going to happen. So next best is finding a similar motor that will work with the controller. I’m good with soldering in our old plug to a new motor. (L10 you say?) and then lacing it in. Yup, have a dmm.

I just don’t know what to get that would work - meaning same size as our current one and compatible with the controller.

Our dropout spacing is 150mm.

Any recommendations?? Thanks for your help! Learning about these things….

When I get a component that breaks in normal use, I would rather replace it with a different one than with the same model that failed. In this case, I would look for a motor that has the same spacing and the same plug as the broken one.

Motors come in different windings (and kv ratings), which will affect torque and speed. If you are replacing the motor and use the same controller, for instance, you could swap to a motor with more torque, but less speed, or more speed and less torque. Speed and torque trade off, so upping speed will result in lower torque (higher speed, slower acceleration). Anyway, if you want to match your stock motor, then knowing the top speed with the battery fully charged might provide useful info. Actually the no load speed (wheel off the ground) would be best, but not doable if your motor isn’t working.
It's hard to find a direct drive motor with 150mm spacing with such a low power rating. Something like the MXUX 3k turbo might work and leave some room to increase power in the future.

I think leafbike will sell you an equivalent motor, 1kw rated, with that 150mm axle, and whatever winding you want.

You'd have a lot more options if you said 135mm!
