I want to build an e-bike for having fun on trails/at skate parks, I'd like to be able to take it off small jumps and do power wheelies.

Right now I'm considering a 20" or 24" Crystalyte X5 motor, since that is the motor I saw on the stealth electric bikes. Is this Crystalytes strongest motor? Would you suggest a different motor for power wheelies?

Top speed doesn't need to be more than 40km/h, I'm looking for torque and acceleration rather than speed.

Range doesn't need to be more than 10km, my commute to work is 6km uphill so I can just coast on the way back :)

I'm really not certain what kind of batteries I need to achieve my goals, or which controller I should get. I'd like some gear that is waterproof so that I can still ride it home if it starts to rain.

I'm planning on getting a cheap bike from zellers/canadian tire or maybe a used one for this project. If someone can recommend a cheap front or full suspension bike that I can get in Canada for this purpose that would be great as well.

The ability to speed-limit the bike would be nice (so it can be road legal), I should be able to wire up a trimmer to most throttles/controllers to achieve that right?

Also, if someone can recommend a Canadian vendor for these parts that would be great! I don't have a fixed budget, but since bike theft is very rampant here I'd like to make the bike cheaper wherever possible.

Thanks for the help!

Power wheelies takes 5000 to 10000 watts of power. Thats motorcycle level power, 10 to 20 times what a normal ebike will run. Don't expect it to be cheap, or sane, or survivable on a department store quality bike.

The 540X isn't sold to the public, but there are a very few out there to be had. check the forsale section here, I think there is a high speed version listed right now.

Warning! the motor weighs 35 pounds all by its self. The battery and controller will be another 15-20 pounds or more. You're looking at a bike that will be pushing over 80 pounds easily.
Very much not something for a skate park

I don't know what your skill level is, but I wouldn't recomend any hub motor for a skate park bike. A Frame mounted RC motor would be a better choice, but thats not cheap or easy. You can get high power and better torque from one, but there is no bolt on kit, you'll be fabricating your own system.

thanks for the advice. I wasn't planning to go to actual skate parks, but I'd like to be able to have some fun in the city with the bike, I want enough torque to hop up curbs like in the stealth electric bike videos, and would like some good hill climbing torque for riding up the mountain near me.

would the hubzilla be a better choice? I've read that it weighs 25lbs and has bigger magnets, it would also be easier to find than a 5303 motor.

What about the HT 3525?

Are there any recommended kits/frames for RC motor setups? That sounds like a nice option but I don't have much time to do any custom design/fabbing right now.

I see a lot of folks from Quebec on this forum, do any of you have meetups to show off your bikes? I would love to see what some of you are riding in person! We have some meetups like this for our modded scooters here and it's a lot of fun.
