Help wiring up a LifePo4?

Hi all,

Can someone lend me a hand? I'm eagerly trying to get my Ebike ready. Got everything today! Anyway the battery is confusing me. It came with no information. I am using the Ampedbiked kit and none of the connectors match! If you could follow my picture story and tell me what the wires are for I'd appreciate it. I'd like to learn and know what each one does, briefly - so that I understand it better.

Here you can see the battery has two wires without connectors.


The black wire is coming from the BMS.


The red wire is split off from the Positive pole.


This connector is on the battery, split into the positive pole and the negative goes into the BMS.


This connector goes from the negative pole into the BMS. Not sure what it's for?


And finally, the charger has this connector on it. How would you charge with this ?

Just for the record, battery from who?

Its a bit different than the Ping, but similar enough to figure out I think. The big wires are your goes into the controller wires. The small wires go into the charger. You will need to scare up connectors for the plugs. Scooter parts webstores can be a good source for the charger plugs, and andersons seem to be the highest standard for the controller connections.

Any type of connectors will work, just be looking for 40-60 amp capacity in the ones to the controller, and maybe 6-10 amp capacity in the charger connectors. Idealy ones that can't be plugged in wrong polarity. I lost two chargers that way. If you don't have a voltmeter, get one, about 15 bucks for a simple one, and that will help you make certain of your polarity for the wires from the charger. The third wire on the charger can be ignored, just figure out which is + and which - with the voltmeter. If you are really lucky, the charger will say on the label which is +.

Charge the battery before you go far on it, and after it finishes charging leave it on the charger for a long time, like overnight. The charger should start and stop repeatedly, balancing the cells. After a few cycles it will do this less, or like mine, not at all. But at first , leave it on the charger a lot. Capacity may be low at first too, and improve quickly once the pack gets balanced.
