Help with 6S 10Ah Lipos with dead cell.

Pretty clear to me that something hit that pack. Shows why you need to put something more durable than shrink around a battery pack before you carry it around on a bike. And, don't drop it, etc. Bikes crash, or just tip over.

Even round cell packs. I just bought a new 48v 13 ah 18650 pack. Looks durable as hell. Even so, I immediately wrapped it in coroplast, so I get a 3 mm crush zone around the pack, and the spot welds. No worries if somehow a large grain of sand gets in my battery box.

Since these cells are already well used, you might play with them for other purposes, like run your bike lights from them, or whatever. I don't see trying to make a usable pack out of them being worthwhile, other than the learning experience. One use that could still be done, is to make a smaller capacity pack, and then parallel it with a new pack to extend range. Once you take out the bad cells, the capacity will be a bit small to use on its own.

i was under the impression these packs were relatively new and had just suffered damage by being crushed in the middle of the pack. it seems like it is easy enuff to identify the ones that are crushed and remove them so that there is still 9S left. it may only be 8S. but to establish their integrity it would be appropriate to allow the remaining cells to sit uncharged for a period of time so you can observe the rate of voltage drain down.

Yeah they are "reasonably" new. The seller of the bike said that they have had less than 100 cycles on them and have been in storage for less than a month before I bought the bike.

He is willing to help me buy new batteries, like a 85/15 split his way as I knew I wasn't getting brand new batteries with the bike.. But I was expecting usable one's though!! lol
Do you guy's think that is fair?

Looking at them it only looks like 1 pouch is damaged in one and maximum 2-3 are damaged in the second one. So out of a total of 24 pouches 20-21 are still usable.

you will have to test them to determine if they are damaged. using looks as criteria is about as useful in making the selection as it is in getting married.

LoL.. Indeed.

I did mean "by look's alone"..

I was thinking of just selling them as is to someone here and putting the proceed's toward's some new one's.

I'm going to post a for sale now. As I have absolutely no idea what they are worth in this condition, what do these pouches go for individually normally?

I see that a new complete pack is $275 each. So what? $100/pack is fair in this condition?

no, you should not ship those batteries. at any time now one of the others which may be on the verge of shorting will go off from being jostled about during shipping and you will end up in jail, or sued by the guvment which is worse, if the battery starts smoking while in shipment.

i really do not think it is that hard to repair batteries so that is what i would do, and have done, and am doing now on my big 24Ah 21S nanotech lipo pack. some people have money to burn and would throw them away but i would go through and examine them for self discharge from a full charged state and remove those with the slightest hint of accelerated self discharge, different from the others.

you measurements indicated a dead cell on #2 of one pack but the damage appears to be on #1 of that pack. the other pack appears to be shorted where the pouches were crushed.

i would remove the suspect pouches and hack it to 9S and then buy two 6S 5Ah lipoly packs like i said to get to 15S and then use a 15S lipo BMS on it so there is insurance against further problems. i also remove the shrink wrap on lipo packs to extend the life cycles and stop the damaging deformation caused by the shrink wrap.

Thank you for all that additional information but that still doesn't answer any of my question's?
I never actually asked if I should ship them? I just asked what a reasonable price would be for the remaining useful pouches.

Firstly, They were shipped to me by Air in that condition.
Secondly, I would remove the offending pouches prior to postage.
Thirdly, I don't necessarily have to post anything to sell them? People can always pick them up? Also, we have ground postage in Australia which is Lipo safe as well as air.

I didn't buy a project. I bought a "working" bike for a reason, as I need it now. Buying replacement pouches etc then spending time working on them and making sure everything works properly will take upward's of a week maybe more.
Buying new batteries/having new batteries bought for me buy the seller will take 1-3 days and they will work immediately.
He has agreed to pay 80% towards replacement's and I would be a fool not to take up that offer! Don't you agree?

I no longer have any intention's of keeping/fixing these as it will take up time and money I don't have.
I am selling these to pay my part of the new batteries along with a couple of other bit's I need for the bike.

So, what do these pouches go for individually normally? And would $100 per pack be fair?

as you can buy multistar 6s 10000mah batteries NEW from hobbyking for slightly <$100 i don't think that you will find anyone familiar with lipo that will buy those for a hundred. and i guess noone w/o lipo experience will/should buy those batteries.
i can't say anything about that brand any why they are so much more expensive and if they are worth it. so this is MY opinion. i would buy 2x 5000mah 6s packs, safe some money and be safe w/o the rework job.
