I'm trying to figure out a solution so that I don't have to open my case and plug/unplug the batteries every time I ride. I do have a power switch on my ESC bit I've heard that you shouldn't use that as an on off switch and that you shouldn't keep your batteries plugged in. My main goal is to have the batteries permanently plugged in and just have an on off switch. Any solution other than the $60 torque boards option? Also not looking to do a loop key.

This should do the trick: http://www.amazon.com/CIRCUIT-BREAKER-REPLACE-12VDC-Scosche/dp/B00JFBY2OU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1450319409&sr=8-4&keywords=200+amp+fuse

Here's how I used it in my own board: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=72923

Lots of options!

You can build a simple "loop key" with the XT-90 anti spark:

I overbuilt it a bit... but that's a step-by-step to build your own.

There's also pre-made anti-spark switches at DIYes and Enertion:
DIYes: http://diyelectricskateboard.com/product/on-off-high-voltage-anti-spark-power-switch-2-14s/
Enertion: http://www.enertionboards.com/electric-skateboard-parts/high-amp-120A-electronic-ignition-on-off-switch/

You can use a resistor with any loop key like this pre-made option:

If you are comfortable with surface mount soldering, there's also Vedder's anti-spark switch. You can get 3 PCB's from OSH for about $20, and the components from Mouser are about $7-10 per.

I would not suggest the Vedder anti-spark switch if you don't have good SMD solder skills (reflow oven or hot air setup). I have a few left if you are comfortable w/ SMD.

HTH - GL!
