Well I don't know about the ordered society and all that, I believe in being aware which in my experience far outclasses any adherence to the rules. I ride like there are no rules, but I still mind them when it comes to others and when I'm going to break them. Always keeping an eye out for the people not paying attention. Riding a tricycle around the city at all hours solidified what riding a bike as a lifestyle had already started in my mind. It's a high for me predicting and anticipating the movement of others. Like being a short sighted Nostradamus with a 360 degree field of vision. I do know how to fight with the blast shield down, it's like a Synesthesia of the streets. All my senses merge into one and I become one with my environment.
The law is good to be aware of but blindly relying on them is folly. I'm not saying anyone here is, but all to many do or even worse don't care about the rules at all and just blunder about the planet. Basic fact of the matter is that the laws aren't really there to protect us at all and are a shield used against us. Our laws for the most part payed for by whoever has the biggest lawyer either out in full view or as some kind of smokey back room deal. Cycling and ebiking could save the Feds so much just in reduced healthcare costs, let alone a whole host of other reasons. A good business man would jump on it, but those are a dying breed. And their dealings with big oil/auto to build a suicide civilization what seems like no easy way out was their doing. Some people never bought it, and the rest were duped into buying it.
People that pedal their way around are made to feel like second class citizens on the roads. And you are going to see scofflaw attitudes because eventually people start looking out for themselves after a close call or two. Realizing that no one else is going to. So in summary, try not to kill/maim/injure someone and look around you so you don't get killed/maimed/injured yourself.
