How feasible would it be to tape a big lipo cell to a ipod?

For a third of the price you could rewire a 2s1p lipo pack into a 1s2p 3ah pack!

You could hot glue this to the back of the ipod, and it would only add 17mm of thickness. Bringing it to slightly more than an inch. Not to bad!

It's perfectly feasible, but you would probably want to make a little hardcase to hold it, so you don't dent the pack when you drop the ipod.

I'm having a similar problem with my iPad, the battery does not last long enough fitting an external battery is the only viable solution the problem is there are no external battery packs on the market for the iPad. I tried one and it just would not charge up fast enough. I even tried a car charger for the iPad that had a 12 to 16v input with 4 lipo's charged to a total of just under 16v. This worked for a bit then the iPad shut down for a bit like a resettable fuse had blown, my next try will be with one of the gizmos that lyen sold that takes up to 60v input and you can set the output to what you want.
I'll let you know my findings.

I just keep my ipod in one of those boom boxes that has an ipod dock. It keeps it charged from either wall power, or the nicads I put inside the boom box.

I do wish they made a charging cord that went to a box with some ordinary dry cells inside, or an external lipo cell. That way you could always have the battery inside on the lightest possible dod.

Dogman that is fine if all you have isan iPod but I have all 3 iPod,iPhone and iPad, the docks for a iPod will not charge some iPhones and none will work with the iPad.
I did my tests with a lipo, the gizmo lyen sells and the iPad, I chose the iPad as it has the highest current draw of the 3 so if this one worked they all would. My results are that it is a full success, I started on with the iPad reading 50% then I attached the gizmo via the docking port. I then started a game that was power hungry after a good 15 minutes of hard game playing the power level had risen to 51% not much of a rise but with that game I would have expected a drop of at least 5%. I then switched it to standby for 15 minutes the battery level increased by the same amount as it would have plugged in to the wall.

I've cracked it now all I need is to put it in a case to make it look neater and and so there is no chance of a short.

Yes, I see how the cheap boom boxes won't help you with the other devices. And the other stuff could drain fast while waiting in a train, or other place you can't plug in. Too bad they don't have a simple power in plug on the things that you can use, like laptops do. Then you just make a block of lipo the right voltage and plug it in to increase capacity hugely.
